Weather influences
- On the 1st a high pressure system in the Tasman Sea extended a ridge along the east Queensland coast. A surface trough shifted eastwards over western Queensland and brought warm northerly flow.
- A decaying ridge extended along the east Queensland coast on the 2nd, while a trough became slow moving over the interior of the state and continued to extend warm northerly flow across to its east.
- On the 3rd a weakening ridge continued to extend along the east Queensland coast, while a surface trough remained over the inland and extended a warm and stagnant air mass over much of the state that continued to extend over eastern Queensland.
- The inland trough weakened over the inland of the state on the 4th that extended some instability in the south-east of the state and maintained a warm air mass. A weak ridge remained along the east Queensland coast from a weak high pressure system near New Zealand
- On the 5th the inland surface trough decayed while another trough shifted into western Queensland that shifted eastwards over the interior of the state on the 6th maintaining warm northerly flow over most of the state and over the south-east.
- On the 7th the trough shifted eastwards into central and south-eastern parts of the state and brought warm conditions to its east and instability in the region.
- On the 8th a surface trough and cold front shifted northwards through south-east Queensland reaching northern parts of the region in the evening and extended a south-easterly wind change with its passage. This brought instability with some showers and thunderstorms.
- A high pressure system over eastern New South Wales on the 9th moved into the Tasman Sea and extended a ridge along the southern Queensland coast.
- A weak high pressure system moved into the Tasman Sea and extended a ridge of high pressure of the east Queensland coast on the 10th
- On the 11th an upper low pressure system was located over northern New South Wales. A surface trough developed in the Coral Sea and brought unstable conditions especially on the southern Queensland coast. A high pressure system extended a ridge along the east Queensland coast.
- An upper low pressure system shifted northwards into south-east Queensland on the 12th as a coastal trough developed off the southern Queensland coast that brought instability. A high pressure system moving east into the Tasman Sea extended a ridge and onshore flow along the east Queensland coast.
- On the 13th an upper low pressure system moved northwards through south-east Queensland and shifted off the Rockhampton coast. This induced the surface trough off the southern and Fraser Coasts to deepen further and a low pressure system to develop off the Fraser coast while drifting towards the southern Queensland coast. A high pressure system in the Tasman Sea extended onshore wind flow along the east Queensland coast and this developed a convergent wind flow along the southern Queensland coast. This brought strong to gale force winds along the southern Queensland coast and resulted in dangerous surf conditions with coastal erosion and abnormally high tides as well as unstable conditions with rain and showers.
- On the 14th a high pressure system in the Tasman Sea extended a ridge along the east Queensland coast. An upper level low off the Capricornia coast shifted southwards into the south-east of the state while a coastal trough with multiple circulations on the trough shifted southwards towards the southern Queensland coast before moving onshore later in the afternoon while weakening. This produced severe weather with hazardous surf, abnormally high tides along the southern Queensland coast, heavy to intense rain and dangerous winds that eased during the day especially closer to the coastline.
- A weakening trough moved westwards over the south-east of the state, on the 15th while the upper low pressure system drifted southwards over the south-east. This brought further rainfall that eased early in the day as well as the high seas and abnormally high tides that also eased.
- On the 16th a weak trough over the south-east of the state in combination with a high pressure system in the Tasman Sea that extended a ridge along the east Queensland coast brought showers and thunderstorm over the south—east.
- An upper level trough on the 17th enhanced unstable conditions over the south-east of the state before shifting offshore later in the day. However unstable conditions persisted over most of the state, including the south-east as a trough in the previous few days remained over western parts of the state.
- On the 18th and 19th a trough remained over western Queensland while shifting slightly further eastwards. A high pressure system in the Tasman Sea extended a weak ridge along the east Queensland coast. Unstable conditions persisted in the region but was mostly over inland parts of the south-east.
- A trough over the west of the state shifted eastwards over the state and brought instability on the 20th and 21st, mostly away from the east Queensland coast. A new high pressure system moved eastwards into the Tasman Sea maintaining a weak ridge along the east Queensland coast.
- Warm ahead of a surface trough that shifted eastwards into the south-east of the state on the 22nd. This brought unstable conditions in the region.
- The trough cleared through the south-east of the state on the 23rd allowing a high pressure system developing in the Great Australian Bight to extend a south-easterly wind change over the south-east with settled conditions
- A ridge extended along the east Queensland coast on the 24th and 25th as a high pressure system remained over the Great Australian Bight moved into south-eastern Australia on the 25th. Cloud over the region as a trough extends over northern and central parts of the state.
- The high pressure system moved into the Tasman Sea on the 26th and extended a weakening ridge along the east Queensland coast on the 26th and 27th.
- On the 28th a weak ridge persisted along the east Queensland coast, contracting to the southern Queensland coast on the 29th as the high pressure system moved further east over the Tasman Sea and to near New Zealand on the 29th.
- A high pressure system moved into the Tasman Sea on the 30th and extended a ridge of high pressure along the east Queensland coast on the 30th and 31st.

Temperature values coloured according to its difference from the long-term average for this month. Outlined value mark highest and lowest values.
Maximum temperatures are measured over the 24 hours from 9 am on the day of measurement. Minimum temperatures are measured over the 24 hours to 9 am of the day of measurement. This was previously different to the official time standards and measured in degrees ºC (before 2018).

Rainfall is measured over 24 hours to 9am and recorded on that day. This is the same as the official time standard and measured in millimetres. Some measurements are not made at 9am and is adjusted based on the automatic record. For other variables see Notes below.
Notes
Based on Bureau of Meteorology Climate summaries (Copyright) of which some data was obtained from. From September 2017 the Bureau of Meteorology Climate summaries were expanded to provide data from official stations in and near the Greater Brisbane “Greater capital city Statistical Area” (GCCSA).
Data Copyright Ferny Grove Weather 2020, Produced 31/01/21. Data Checking has been carried out, but errors may still be present and therefore there is no assurance of correctness. Corrections may be made at a later data if errors or deficiencies are found and/or improvements in data handling techniques are made, though data with major improvements may not be updated in this summary. Data measured with professional moderate accuracy equipment. This replaced non professional equipment of low accuracy with differences in the measured data. The new equipment measures the daily average wind speed and wind run about 40 % higher. Daily rainfall and grass minimum temperature is measured using non-professional equipment of moderate accuracy.
Site Commencement data is April 15 2009 except for daily rainfall which commenced on January 1 1987. Not all variables have been measured over the entire station record. Most variables are measured over a 24 hour period ending in the evening and over a 24 hour period from midnight effective October 5 2018. Maximum temperatures are measured over the 24 hours from 9 am on the day of measurement. Minimum temperatures are measured over the 24 hours to 9 am of the day of measurement. Rainfall is measured over 24 hours to 9am and recorded on that day. This is the same as the official time standard. Some rainfall measurements are not made at 9am and is adjusted based on the automatic record. Minimum Grass Temperature is measured over an approx. 12 hour period ending in the early morning. MSL refers to Mean Sea Level, which is the standard meteorological method of measuring air pressure reduced to sea level based on both elevation and temperature. Grass Minimum Depression is the difference of the grass minimum temperature from the air temperatures and is a positive value when the grass temperature is below the air temperature.
Up until March 9 2019 automatic records as Dew Point, Average Wind Speed, Dominant Wind Direction, Wind Run, Rain Rate and Hourly Rain are measured over a 24 hour period starting at midnight and recorded for that day. This started on the 6 October 2011. The automatic record is used for some data and also may be used if data is not available/ not suitable. From March 9 2019 the automatic record became the official record instead, simplifying this process. Until replaced on 5 October 2018 the temperature and humidity sensor is under exposed so minimum temperature and maximum humidity are incorrect and low accuracy rain gauge is used which are not used as the site’s official record. This data limitation does not apply to other measurements of temperatures, air pressure and humidity, wind gust, daily and monthly rainfall and rain days elsewhere in this summary which are recorded separately and form the official record for this site. The replacement equipment is sited in more exposed locations and therefore the limitations don’t apply, though the automatic daily rainfall doesn’t form the official data for the site.
Long term averages are based on all available long period past measurements from October 2019 whilst for non automatic rainfall is based on 1987 to 2017 average from the station record. Prior to this the long term average for Temperature, Relative Humidity and Air pressure is based on 2009 to 2015 average from the station record and wind speed is based on the 2010 to 2018 average from station record. Wind Run is 2011 to 2018 and Rain Rate and High Hourly Rain is 2011 to 2017.
The Fraction of monthly average expresses how much has fallen in respect to the long term average listed as a percentage. The decile ranking compares the rainfall total to the historical record for the site where the record is divided into 10 equal groups. Decile 1 is the lowest 10% of the record (10th percentile) and Decile 10 (90th percentile) is the highest 10% of the record. Decile 1 is considered “very low”, decile 2 and 3 “low”, decile 4 to 7 “average”, decile 8 and 9 “high” and decile 10 “very high”.
