Solunar Best Fishing Times

This calculator provides fishing times based on the solunar theory, which suggests that fish activity is influenced by the position and phases of the moon. According to this theory, certain times of the day are more favorable for fishing due to the alignment of solar and lunar events. Note that fishing success may be affected by various other factors such as weather conditions, water temperature, and local fish behavior. Use this information as a guide, but rely on your knowledge and experience when planning your fishing trips.

To use, pick a date for the selected area, or change the Latitude, Longitude (use map below to find) and Time Zone Offset to your desired location. By default the calculator is set location of Hornibrook Pier, Brighton.

The fishing times are calculated based on the principles of solunar theory, which suggests that the movement of the moon and sun affects the feeding patterns of fish. The calculator determines the best fishing times by analyzing factors such as sunrise, sunset, moonrise, moonset, moon phase, and lunar transit.

Major feeding periods occur for 1 hour either side of the upper and lower transits of the moon, while minor feeding periods occur 30 minutes either side of moonrise and moonset. 3 star rating is assigned if a feeding time occur within 1 hour of sunrise or sunset. 4 star rating is assigned if the feeding period occurs during the new moon or full moon when the sun and moon are closest to earth. 5 stars is assigned if the moonrise/ moonset coincides with sunrise and sunset during a new or full moon phases
