Ferny Grove Weather - Seasonal Meteorological Report at Ferny Grove for spring 2019

Overnight temperatures were near average and daytime temperatures were well above average in spring at Ferny Grove. In the Brisbane area the official sites generally saw near average minimum temperatures. Maximum temperatures were well above average at most sites across the Brisbane area and were at least 1 ºC above average and more than 2 ºC above average at the inland sites. At Ferny Grove rainfall was well below average. Rainfall totals at most of the official sites were well below average and record low at many sites. During spring at Ferny Grove air pressure was above average, with well below average mean minimum humidity, below average mean maximum humidity and well below average mean humidity, well below average mean minimum dew point, near average mean maximum dew point and below average mean dew point, above average wind speed and 11 thunderstorms (10 thunder days).

Temperature – near average overnight and well above average daytime temperatures

Seasonal Mean Minimum Temperature: 14.8 ºC, 0.1 ºC above average and 0.1 ºC higher than the same season in 2018. This is the fifth lowest seasonal minimum temperature on record for spring and the highest since 15.0 ºC in 2017. In spring the official sites in the Brisbane area observed near average mean minimum temperatures though some sites saw above or below average mean minimum temperatures. Most sites saw mean minimum temperatures of between 0.4 ºC below average (14 ºC at Beerburrum) to 0.4 ºC above average (16.7 ºC at Brisbane and 15.4 ºC at Cape Moreton Lighthouse) observed at both inland and coastal sites. Amberley observed a below average mean minimum temperature that was 0.6 ºC below the long-term average with a mean minimum temperature of 12.4 ºC. Cape Moreton Lighthouse was the only site measuring an above average mean minimum temperature that was 0.8 ºC above average with a mean minimum temperature of 18.6 ºC which was the highest mean minimum temperature that was observed of all the official sites.

Lowest Monthly Mean Minimum Temperature (September): 12.1 ºC, 0.2 ºC above average and 0.8 ºC higher than same month in 2018. This is the fifth highest on record for September and the highest since 13.2 ºC in 2016. In the Brisbane area during September most sites were close to or below the long-term average. The exception to this was Cape Moreton Lighthouse which was 0.8 ºC above average with a mean minimum temperature of 16.8 ºC. Cape Moreton also observed the highest mean minimum temperature of all the sites. The lowest mean minimum temperature was 8.7 ºC at Amberley (0.8 ºC below average). Except for Beerburrum at 0.7 ºC below average (11.3 ºC) the remaining sites were close to average between 0.4 ºC below average and 0.3 ºC above average. Brisbane observed a mean minimum temperature of 14.1 ºC (0.3 ºC above average).

Highest Monthly Mean Minimum Temperature (November): 17.6 ºC, equal to long term average and 0.2 ºC higher than same month in 2018. This is the sixth highest and lowest on record for November and the highest since 18.6 ºC in 2015. Across the Brisbane area during November most official sites measured above average mean minimum temperatures whilst some sites observed below average or close to average mean minimum temperatures. The lowest mean minimum temperature observed was 15.7 ºC at Amberley (0.6 ºC below average). Several sites were close to average which were mostly the inland sites and these ranged between 0.5 ºC below average at Beaudesert (15.8 ºC) and 0.3 ºC above average at Gatton (16.3 ºC). Cape Moreton Lighthouse recorded the highest positive anomaly from the long-term average of 1.2 ºC above average with a mean minimum temperature of 20.8 ºC and also observed the highest mean minimum temperature. The remaining sites measured above average mean minimum temperature of between 0.6 ºC and 0.9 ºC above average. Brisbane observed a mean minimum temperature of 19.6 ºC (0.8 ºC above average).

Monthly Mean Minimum Temperature for October: 14.6 ºC, 0.1 ºC above average and 0.8 ºC lower than same month in 2018. This is the fifth highest on record for October and the lowest since 12.3 ºC in 2016. During October most official sites in the Brisbane area observed close to average mean minimum temperatures. Amberley however was 0.6 ºC below average with a mean minimum temperature of 12.7 ºC and the lowest mean minimum temperature of all the sites was 12.4 ºC at Gatton (0.8 ºC below average). Except for these two sites the mean minimum temperatures were between 0.4 ºC below average at Beerburrum (14.2 ºC) and 0.4 ºC above average at Logan City Treatment Plant (15.4 ºC). The highest mean minimum temperature was 18.2 ºC at Cape Moreton Lighthouse (0.3 ºC above average). Brisbane observed a mean minimum temperature of 16.5 ºC (0.1 ºC above average).

Seasonal Mean Maximum Temperature: 29.4 ºC, 2.3 ºC above average and 1.9 ºC higher than in 2018. This is the second highest on record and the highest since the current record high of 30.1 ºC in 2009. Most of the official sites in the Brisbane area observed above average mean minimum temperatures, where most sites were at least 1 ºC above average and 2 ºC to 3 ºC above average for the inland sites. The lowest anomaly observed was 0.7 ºC above average at Brisbane Aero with a mean maximum temperature of 26.2 ºC. The highest anomaly from the long-term average for the non- inland sites was 1.5 ºC above average at Cape Moreton Lighthouse (24.6 ºC) and Logan City Treatment Plant (28 ºC). All of the inland sites saw mean maximum temperatures that were well above average. These inland sites ranged from 2.2 ºC above average at Archerfield (29.1 ºC) to 3.6 ºC above average at Gatton (31.6 ºC), with Amberly 3.3 ºC above average (31 ºC) and Beaudesert being 2.5 ºC above average with a mean maximum of 30.5 ºC. The highest mean maximum temperature was observed by Gatton while the lowest mean maximum temperature was 24.6 ºC at Cape Moreton Lighthouse. Amberley and Archerfield exceeded the previous record high for spring mean maximum temperatures set in 2013, while Gatton was the highest since 1915.

Lowest Monthly Mean Maximum Temperature (October): 27.9 ºC, 0.6 ºC above average and 1.3 ºC higher than same month in 2018. This is the fifth lowest on record for October and the highest since 28.2 ºC in 2016. The year to date maximum temperature is 1 ºC above average. Across the Brisbane area official sites saw mean maximum temperatures that were close to or below average for the coastal sites and above to well above average at many inland sites. The lowest anomaly from the long-term average was observed by Beerburrum (26.8 ºC), Brisbane Aero (24.7 ºC) and Redcliffe (24.8 ºC) at 0.7 ºC below average and the lowest mean maximum temperature was 23.7 ºC at Cape Moreton Lighthouse. Brisbane observed a mean maximum temperature of 26.8 ºC that was close to average (0.2 ºC below average). Logan City Treatment Plant (0.3 ºC below average and Point Lookout (0.2 ºC below average) was also close to average. Cape Moreton Lighthouse was slightly above average at 0.6 ºC above average with a mean maximum temperature of 23.7 ºC. The highest anomalies were measured by Amberley (1.9 ºC above average) with a mean maximum of 29.7 ºC, Gatton (2.5 ºC above average and 30.7 ºC) and Archerfield (0.8 ºC above average and 27.8 ºC).

Highest Monthly Mean Maximum Temperature (November): 2.1 ºC, 2.9 ºC above average and 1.6 ºC higher than same month in 2018. This is the equal highest on record for November, shared with 32.1 ºC in 2009. During November all of the official sites measured well above maximum temperatures of at least 1.5 ºC above average and 3 ºC to 4 ºC above average at the inland sites. 6 sites also exceeded or equalled records for November mean maximum temperatures. Gatton measured the highest mean maximum temperature since 1915 based on all available data. The lowest mean maximum temperature of all the official sites was 27.8 ºC at Redlands (Alexandra Hills). The lowest anomaly was 1.5 ºC above average at Brisbane Aero (28.4 ºC) and at Redcliffe (28.6 ºC). The remaining sites were at least 2 ºC above average and the inland sites were between 3.2 ºC above average at Archerfield (31.7 ºC) and 4.8 ºC above average at Gatton (35 ºC). Amberley observed a mean maximum temperature of 4.3 ºC above average (33.9 ºC). Brisbane observed a mean maximum temperature of 30.6 ºC (2.4 ºC above average).

Monthly Mean Maximum Temperature for September: 28.2 ºC, 2.1 ºC above average and 2.8 ºC higher than same month in 2018. This is the third highest on record for September and the highest since 28.4 ºC in 2017. During September all of the official sites in the Brisbane area observed above average mean maximum temperatures, with the highest anomalies observed by the inland sites. The site measuring the mean maximum temperature closest to its long term average was 1.2 ºC above average at Brisbane Aero (25.4 ºC), while the lowest mean maximum temperature was 23.3 ºC at Cape Moreton Lighthouse (1.8 ºC above average). Many sites were up to 1.8 ºC above average, while the inland sites were at least 2 ºC above average. The highest mean maximum temperature was observed by Gatton (3.7 ºC above average) and Amberley (3.6 ºC) and both observed 29.3 ºC. Archerfield was 2.6 ºC above average (27.9 ºC), Beaudesert was 2.6 ºC above average (28.7 ºC), and Logan City Treatment Plant was 2 ºC above average (27.1 ºC). Brisbane observed a mean maximum temperature of 27.4 ºC (1.8 ºC above average).

Seasonal Mean Temperature: 22.1 ºC, 1.2 ºC above average and 0.8 ºC higher than same season in 2018. This is the second highest on record and the highest since the current record high of 22.9 ºC in 2009. Amberley equalled its existing record high for the highest spring mean temperature of 21.7 ºC set in 2005, whilst Gatton measured a mean temperature of 22.1 ºC that was highest since 23.6 ºC in 1915.

Lowest Mean Monthly Temperature (September): 20.2 ºC, 1.1 ºC above average and 1.8 ºC higher than same month in 2018. This is the third highest on record for September and the equal highest since 20.2 ºC in 2013.

Highest Mean Monthly Temperature (November): 24.8 ºC, 1 ºC above average and 0.9 ºC higher than same month in 2018. This is the third highest on record for November and the highest since 25.1 ºC in 2015.

Mean Monthly Temperature (October): 21.2 ºC, 0.1 ºC below average and 0.2 ºC higher than same month in 2018. This is the sixth highest and lowest on record for October and the highest since 22.2 ºC in 2017.

Lowest Temperature: 6.9 ºC on 12 September 2019 at 6:10 AM. Same month in 2018 was 7.2 ºC and same season in 2018 was 6.9 ºC. This is the sixth highest and lowest monthly minimum temperature for September on record, the lowest since 4.6 ºC in 2017 on 15 September at 5:55 AM, the thirteenth lowest daily September minimum temperature and the lowest since 5.1 ºC on 16 September 2017 at 6:11 AM. For spring this is the sixth highest and lowest seasonal minimum temperature on record, the lowest since 4.6 ºC in 2017 on 15 September at 5:55 AM, the thirteenth lowest daily spring minimum temperature and the lowest since 5.1 ºC on 16 September 2017 at 6:11 AM. Official stations in the Brisbane area observed the lowest temperature of the month on the 10th and 13th at some sites and on the 1st, 4th and 13th at other sites. The lowest was 2.9 ºC at Amberley on the 10th and the highest was 12 ºC at Cape Moreton Lighthouse on the 12th. The lowest temperature at Brisbane was 10.4 ºC on the 1st. During the first half of the month there were numerous cool nights due to clear skies and no cool nights at the end of the month. The lowest temperature for the season for the official sites ranged between 2.9 ºC at Amberley on 10 September 2019 and 12 ºC at Cape Moreton Lighthouse on 10 September 2019. For spring the lowest observed temperature at Brisbane was 10.4 ºC on 1 September 2019.

Lowest Monthly Minimum Temperature (for November): 11.4 ºC on 10 November 2019 at 5:02 AM. Same month in 2018 was 12.6 ºC. This is the lowest monthly and daily minimum temperature for November on record, exceeding the previous record of 11.7 ºC in 2017 on 2 November at 5:05 AM. Official stations in the Brisbane area observed the lowest temperature of the month on the 6th, 7th and 10th and at Brisbane on the 7th. The lowest was 6.6 ºC at Amberley on the 10th and the highest was 15.1 ºC at Brisbane on the 7th. Cool nights were evident during much of the first half of the month and especially in the second week with very few cool nights for the rest of the month.

Highest Temperature: 40.3 ºC on 8 November 2019 at 1:23 PM. Same month and season in 2018 was 37.2 ºC. This is the highest monthly and daily maximum temperature for November on record, exceeding the previous record high of 39.6 ºC in 2014 on 16 November at 2:10 PM. For spring this is the highest seasonal maximum temperature on record, exceeding the previous record high of 39.6 ºC in spring 2014 on 16 November at 2:10 PM. The official sites measured the highest temperature for the month on the 8th and 16th at most sites, and some sites in the 5th, 7th, 13th and 20th. The lowest was 29 ºC at Cape Moreton Lighthouse on the 5th and the highest was 40.2 ºC at Amberley on the 16th. Brisbane observed its highest temperature of 34.8 ºC on the 7th. The majority of days saw above average maximum temperatures across all sites throughout the month and particularly between the 7th and 20th. The inland sites saw several days of temperature at or near 40 ºC. The highest temperature for the season of the official sites ranged between 29.5 ºC at Cape Moreton Lighthouse on 4 September 2019 and 41.1 ºC at Amberley on 8 October 2019. For spring the highest observed temperature at Brisbane was 34.8 ºC on 7 November 2019.

Monthly Highest Temperature (for September): 35.3 ºC at 1:44 PM on 6 September 2019. Same month in 2018 was 31.2 ºC. This is the second highest monthly maximum temperature for September on record, the highest since the current record high of 36.6 ºC in 2017 on 29 September at 2:35 PM, the third highest daily maximum temperature for September and the highest since 35.6 ºC on 28 September 2017 at 4:27 PM. The official sites measured the highest temperature for the month on the 6th at most sites, the 4th at some coastal sites and the 28th for Logan City Treatment Plant. The lowest was 29.5 ºC at Cape Moreton Lighthouse on the 4th and the highest was 36.4 ºC at Amberley on the 6th. Brisbane observed its highest temperature of 34.8 ºC on the 6th. Above average maximum temperatures observed during most of the month. The 4th to 6th saw all sites experience well above average maximum temperatures in persistent north-westerly winds.

Monthly Highest Temperature (for October): 34.7 ºC at 11:49 AM on 8 October 2019. Same month in 2018 was 34.6 ºC. This is the fifth highest monthly maximum temperature for October on record, the sixth highest daily maximum temperature for October, and the highest since 35.1 ºC in 2014 on 27 October at 3:05 PM. The official sites measured the highest temperature for the month on the 7th and 8th at most sites, and some sites in the 17th and 31st. The lowest was 26.2 ºC at Cape Moreton Lighthouse on the 31st and the highest was 41.3 ºC at Gatton on the 8th. Brisbane observed its highest temperature of 30.8 ºC on the 7th. Above average maximum temperatures occurred between the 5th and 8th. This was from warm north-westerly winds ahead of a surface trough. Further above average temperatures occurred during the second half of the month with high temperatures on the 17th when Gatton measured 38.1 ºC.

Lowest Maximum Temperature: 21.3 ºC at 2:52 PM on 12 October 2019. This is the sixth highest and lowest monthly lowest maximum temperature for October on record, the highest since 22.4 ºC in 2016 on 23 October at 3:28 PM, the equal thirteenth lowest maximum temperature for October and equal lowest since 20.6 ºC on 15 October 2018 at 1:37 PM. This month in 2018 was 18.6 ºC. For spring this is the third highest seasonal lowest maximum temperature on record, the highest since 21.6 C in 2014 on 7 September at 1:41 PM, the equal nineteenth lowest daily maximum temperature and the lowest since 20.6 ºC in 2018 on 15 October at 1:37 PM. This season in 2018 was 18.6 ºC. All of the official stations in the Brisbane area measured the coolest day on the 12th. These ranged between 19.4ºC at Cape Moreton Lighthouse and Logan City Treatment Plant and 21.3 ºC at Brisbane and Gatton. In the Brisbane area the official sites observed cool days during some of the month and was mostly in the first half of the month. For spring the lowest observed maximum temperature at Brisbane was 21.3 ºC on 12 October 2019 and for all of the official sites this was 18.9 ºC at Cape Moreton Lighthouse on 10 September 2019.

Highest Minimum Temperature: 22.9 ºC on 28 November 2019 at 7:50 AM. This is the third highest monthly November highest minimum temperature on record, the sixth highest daily minimum temperature for November and the highest since 23.5 ºC in 2015 on 29 November at 9:52 PM. This month in 2018 was 22.6 ºC. For spring this is the third highest seasonal daily minimum temperature, the highest since 23.5 ºC in 2015 on 29 November at 9:52 PM, the sixth highest daily minimum temperature and the highest since 22 ºC on 22 November 2018 at 9:11 PM. This season in 2018 was 24.0 ºC. During the month the official stations in the Brisbane area measured the warmest nights scattered throughout the second half of the month. These ranged between 21.8 ºC at Gatton on the 27th and 23.1 ºC at Amberley on the 21st. In the Brisbane area warm nights were observed throughout the month especially towards the end of the month. Brisbane’s highest minimum temperature observed during spring was 22.9 ºC on 29 November 2019 and for all the official sites this was 23.1 ºC at Amberley on 21 November 2019.

Seasonal Average Minimum Grass Temperature: 12.8 ºC (0.4 ºC lower than same season in 2018)

Lowest Seasonal Minimum Grass Temperature: 4.9 ºC on 12 September 2019 (2.1 ºC higher than same month in 2018). This coincided with the lowest minimum temperature of 6.9 ºC for the month.

Highest Seasonal Minimum Grass Temperature: 21.9 ºC on 28 November 2019 (0.9 ºC higher than same month in 2018). This coincided with the highest minimum temperature of 22.9 ºC for the month.

Highest Minimum Grass Temperature Depression: 4.9 ºC on 9 November 2019 with a minimum grass temperature of 17.4 ºC and an air temperature of 22.3 ºC.

Lowest Minimum Grass Temperature Depression: 0.9 ºC on 25 September 2019 with a minimum grass temperature of 16.2 ºC and an air temperature of 17.1 ºC.

Minimum temperatures were generally below average over the first half of the September except for some warmer nights in the second week of the month. Most nights in the second half of the month were above average. The month started with a cool period of 2 ºC to 5 ºC below average. It was warmer at 4 ºC above average on the 7th. Cooler conditions followed being 2 to 5 ºC below average between the 10th and 14th. After near average temperatures from the 20th minimum temperatures were between 3 and 5 ºC above average but was 1 ºC to 2 ºC above average on the 23rd, 27th and 29th.

Minimum temperatures saw several periods of cool nights especially in the first half of the month with several warm periods throughout the October. The month started warm at 3 ºC above average on the 1st and a cool period followed between the 3rd and 5th being 4 to 6 ºC below average. The 8th and 9th was 2 ºC and 4 ºC above average respectively before another cool period followed on the 10th to 14th. During this period temperatures were 4 to 5 ºC below average on the 12th and 13th and 2 to 3 ºC below average on the 10th, 11th and 14th. From the 5th temperatures were within 2 ºC of the long term average. The 24th and 25th was 3 ºC below average. The 27th was equal to the average before warming to 3 ºC to 4 ºC above average on the 28th and 29th.

Minimum temperatures in November were mostly near or below average and there were some above average temperatures later in the month. The month started with below average temperatures of 2 ºC to 3 ºC below average on the 1st to 3rd. It cooled again to 6 ºC to 7 ºC below average on the 6th to 8th, before warming to 4 ºC above average on 9th and cooled to 7 ºC below average on the 10th. On the 11th to 13th it was 2 ºC to 3 ºC below average. The 21st was 4 ºC above average before near average temperatures between the 22nd and 27th. It was 4 ºC below average on the 28th, and 2 ºC above average on the 29th and 30th.

Maximum temperatures during September were predominately above average with a few days close to average and a cool period in the second week of the month. The first 6 days of the month saw mostly above average temperatures of up to 9 ºC above average (on the 4th). Temperatures were 2 to 3 ºC below average on the 9th and 10th. Following mostly close to average temperatures maximum temperatures warmed to 5 ºC above average on the 13th and 14th and 4 ºC above average on the 16th and 17th. Cooler conditions followed with the 27th being 6 ºC above average before near average temperatures returned. Except for the 29th temperatures were 3 ºC to 7 ºC above average on the 27th to 30th.

Maximum temperatures in October were generally above average with some cool periods throughout the month. The month started with the first 2 days being 2 to 3 ºC below average. A warm period followed between the 4th and 8th and was 5 ºC on the 5th and 7 ºC on the 7th and 8th when the highest temperature of the month occurred. Cooler temperatures of 2 to 6 ºC below average followed on the 9th to 12th. A warm period followed on the 16th which was 4 ºC above average and 6 ºC above average on the 17th. After cooler temperatures it then warmed to 2 ºC to 3 ºC above average on the 26th and to 28th, easing to 3 ºC below average on the 30th.

Maximum temperatures during November were predominately above average with several days that were well above average. The month started being 4 ºC below average on the 1st, before easing to close to average on the 2nd and 3rd. The 4th was 5 ºC above average, 1 ºC to 2 ºC on the 5th and 6th, increasing to 6 ºC above average on the 7th to the highest temperature for the month on the 8th that was 11 ºC below average. The 9th and 10th was 3 ºC to 5 ºC above average, easing to 1 ºC below average on the 11th, before increasing to 4 ºC above average on the 12th, 7 ºC above average on the 13th, and easing to 2 ºC above average on the 14th. The warmth continued being 4 ºC to 7 ºC above average on the 15th to 17th. After cooler weather the 19th was 4 ºC above average, 6 ºC above average on the 20th and reducing to 1 ºC to 2 ºC above average on the 21st to 23rd. The 23rd to 26th was 2 ºC to 3 ºC above average, 4 ºC above average on the 27th, easing to 1 ºC below average on the 28th, 3 ºC above average on the 29th and 6 ºC above average on the 30th.

Seasonal Mean Maximum Pressure: 1020.2 hPa (0.9 hPa higher than same season in 2018). This is the third highest on record for spring and the highest since 1021.8 hPa in 2015.

Monthly Mean Maximum MSL Pressure (for September): 1022.5 hPa (0.1 hPa higher than same month in 2018). This is the second highest on record for September and the highest since the current record high of 1022.9 hPa in 2015.

Monthly Mean Maximum MSL Pressure (for October): 1021.2 hPa (1.5 hPa higher than same month in 2018). This is the second highest on record for October and the highest since the current record high of 1025.5 hPa in 2015.

Seasonal Mean Pressure: 1017.4 hPa (1.0 hPa above average) and 0.9 hPa higher than same season in 2018. This is the fourth highest on record and the highest since the current record high of 1019.2 hPa in 2015.

Monthly Mean MSL Pressure (for September): 1019.8 hPa (2.2 hPa above average, 0.3 hPa higher than same month in 2018). This is the second highest on record for September and the highest since the current record high of 1020.1 hPa in 2015.

Monthly Mean MSL Pressure (for October): 1018.5 hPa (1.8 hPa above average, 1.2 hPa higher than same month in 2018). This is the second highest on record for October and the highest since the current record high of 1023.1 hPa in 2015.

Lowest Seasonal MSL Pressure: 1001.3 hPa on 8 November 2019 at 4:07 PM. The same month and season in 2018 saw 995 hPa. This is the third lowest monthly minimum air pressure for November, the highest since 1007.6 hPa in 2017 on 7 November at 2:10 AM, the fifth lowest daily minimum air pressure for November and the lowest since the current record low of 995.0 hPa in 2018 on 28 November at 1:52 PM. For spring this is the fourth lowest seasonal minimum air pressure, the equal seventh lowest daily minimum air pressure and the lowest since the current record low of 995 hPa on 28 November 2018 at 1:52 PM.

Seasonal Highest Pressure: 1030 hPa on 2 October 2019 at 8:52 AM. The same month in 2018 saw 1027.9 hPa and the same season in 2018 saw 1028.5 hPa. This is the third highest October monthly maximum air pressure, the highest since 1033.2 hPa in 2015 on 3 October at 7:49 AM, the sixth highest daily maximum air pressure for October and the highest since 1031.8 hPa on 9 October 2015 at 8:55 AM. For spring this is the fourth highest seasonal pressure on record, the highest since 1033.2 in 2015 on 3 October at 7:49 AM, the equal tenth highest daily air pressure and the highest since 1031.8 hPa on 9 October 2015 at 8:55 AM.

Rainfall – Very low rainfall

Seasonal Rainfall Total: 65.5 mm (128 mm below average and 33.9 % of the long term average), this season last year was 323.3 mm. This is the second lowest spring rainfall on record, the lowest since the current record low of 37.5 mm in 1994 and ranks as decile 1/ 9th percentile and as very low. Spring rainfall totals across the Brisbane area were below to well below average at most of the main official sites. The exception to this was 191.4 mm at Beerburrum which was 75% of the long-term average which ranked as average. The remaining sites ranked as lowest, very low or low for spring rainfall. Sites that ranked as low was 121.2 mm at Brisbane Aero (61% of the long-term average) and 121.4 mm at Redcliffe (58% of the long-term average). The sites that ranked as very low which was most of the official main sites saw totals that were between 23% of the long term average at Beaudesert with a total of 44.2 mm and 44% of the long term average at Logan City Treatment Plant with a total of 92 mm. Two of the main sites saw totals that were the lowest on record being 73.4 mm at Brisbane (37% of the long-term average) and Gatton with a total of 23.4 mm (13% of the long term average). Of all the sites 10 sites observed record low spring rainfall totals and 8 other sites record spring rainfall totals that were the lowest in at least 20 years.

Number of Rain Days: 15 days, 20 less than same season in 2018 and 6.6 days below average. This is the third lowest on record for spring and the lowest since 13 days in 2008.

Number of Rain Days (0.1 mm or greater) for November: 4 days, 2 less than this month in 2018 and 4.4 days below average. This is the equal lowest on record for November and is the equal lowest since 4 days in 2011.

Highest Daily Total: 26.7 mm on 12 October 2019. This is the thirteenth lowest October daily rainfall on record on monthly basis, the lowest since 9 mm in 2016 which occurred on the 18 October, the twentieth highest October daily rainfall on record on daily basis and the highest since 31.4 mm on 22 October 2018. The highest daily total in the Brisbane area of all official sites was 94 mm at Clontarf on the 1 October 2019. For spring this is the sixth lowest daily rainfall total on record, the lowest since 26.5 mm in 2014 on the 20 November, the forty-seventh highest daily rainfall total and the highest since 31.4 mm on 22 October 2018. The highest daily total in the Brisbane area of all official sites was 94 mm at Clontarf on the 1 October 2019.

Wettest Month (October): 48.5 mm (16.4 mm below average) and 75.2% of the long term average. This total is in decile 6/ 59th percentile which ranks as average and 7 mm above the long term median (108 % of long term median). This total is lower than this month last year which was 263.7 mm, the fourteenth highest on record for October and the lowest since 17.7 mm in 2016. Year to date rainfall is 59% of the long term average. The official sites in the Brisbane area have generally seen year-to-date totals that are about 40% of the long term average at the inland sites and 60% for the closer to the coast. Several long period rainfall totals have continued to see well below average rainfall totals at Ferny Grove. April to October rainfall is 174.4 mm (149.1 mm below average), which is in the lowest 10 % of the records and the lowest since 169.4 mm in 2014. 12 monthly rainfall is 564 mm (477 mm below average and in the lowest 10% of records) and is the lowest since 278.5 mm in 2014.

In October the main official sites in the Brisbane area measured below average rainfall totals at the inland sites and average to above average rainfall totals at the coastal and northern sites. The lowest rainfall total was 21.6 mm at Gatton (33% of the average and ranked as low) and Archerfield also ranked as low with a total that was 35% of the long term average (27 mm). Beaudesert measured a total of 24.8 mm (34% of the long term average ranking as average). The sites measuring the higher totals were Beerburrum (129.6 mm) which ranked as high was 143% of the long term average, Redcliffe (110.6 mm) which ranked as high and was 126% of the long term average, Brisbane Aero (85 mm) which ranked as average was 114% of the long term average and Cape Moreton Lighthouse (85 mm) ranked as average was 114% of the long term average. The remaining coastal sites saw totals that were between 67% and 98% of the long term average with totals ranging between 45.8 mm at Logan City Treatment Plant (67% of the long term average). Brisbane observed a total of 55 mm (71 % of the long term average) which ranked as average. The highest total of all the official sites was 154 mm at Landsborough and the lowest total was 21.6 mm at Gatton.

Driest Month (September): 2.8 mm (30.4 mm below average) and 8.4 % of the long term average. This total is in decile 1/ 6th percentile which ranks as very low and 18.2 mm below the long term median (13 % of long term median). This total is lower than this month last year which was 37.9 mm, the third lowest on record for September and the lowest since 1.7 mm in 2017.

During September most of the main official sites in the Brisbane area observed totals of less than 10 mm of rain. Most of the sites ranked historically as low or very low except for two sites that ranked as average. These sites ranking as average were 13 mm at Amberley (39% of the long term average) and 20.6 mm at Beerburrum (44% of the long term average). The remaining sites measured totals that were between 4 and 42% of the long term average. The sites that ranked as low measured totals that were between 14 and 42% of the long term average with the lowest total being 3 mm at Brisbane Aero (24% of the long term average) and the highest being 16.5 mm (42% of the long term average) at Logan City Treatment Plant. The sites that ranked as very low saw totals that were between 3% and 11% of the long term average; the lowest total was 1 mm at Gatton (3% of the long term average and was the lowest total of all the official sites) and 5.8 mm at Point Lookout (11% of the long term average). Brisbane observed a total of 8.8 mm (31 % of the long term average) which ranked as low. Woodford Stanmore observed a new record low for September rainfall with a total of 1.9 mm exceeding the previous record of 2.4 mm in 2003, while Alderley observed its lowest total since 1987 (0.8 mm) with a total of 3.1 mm measured. The highest total of all the official sites was 28.2 mm at Caloundra Airport.

November Monthly Rainfall: 14.2 mm (81.7 mm below average) and 14.8% of the long term average. This total is in decile 1/ 6th percentile which ranks as very low and 64.8 mm below the long term median (6.5 % of long term median). This total is lower than this month last year which was 21.6 mm, and the lowest on record for November exceeding the previous record low of 18.1 mm in 2011. Year to date rainfall is 54.9% of the long term average. The year-to-date rainfall total at Brisbane is about 50% of the long term average. Several long period rainfall totals have continued to see well below average rainfall totals at Ferny Grove. June to November rainfall is 158 mm (149.1 mm below average), which is in the lowest 10 % of the records and the lowest since 148.5 mm in 2004. The 9 monthly rainfall total is 499.6 mm (130.4 mm below average and in the lowest 20% of records) and is the lowest since 433.7 mm in 2014. 12 monthly and 18 monthly rainfall totals also shows a strong negative anomaly from the long term average.

All of the main official sites in the Brisbane area saw well below average rainfall totals in November that were less than 50 mm. Numerous inland and coastal locations across the Greater Brisbane area saw the lowest November rainfall totals on record. Additionally many sites saw November rainfall totals that were the lowest in at least 20 years. The highest rainfall total of the main sites was 41.2 mm at Beerburrum which ranked as low (37% of the long term average). Beerburrum also observed the highest percentage of the long term average of all the main sites. The lowest rainfall total was 0.4 mm at Amberley (1% of the long term average) and ranked as the lowest on record. Brisbane also ranked as lowest on record with a total of 9.6 mm (11% of the long term average) along with Cape Moreton Lighthouse with a total of 4.6 mm (5% of the long term average and Gatton with a total of 0.8 mm (1% of the long term average). Except for 30mm at Logan City Treatment Plant (30% of the long term average) that ranked as low the remaining sites ranked as very low with totals ranging between 6% (Beaudesert with a total of 4.8 mm) and 25% of the long term average (Brisbane Aero with a total of 23.2 mm). The highest total of all the official sites was 154 mm at Landsborough and the lowest total was 43.8 mm at Caloundra Airport.

For spring this is the lowest seasonal maximum hourly rainfall exceeding the previous record low of 13.5 in 2011 on the 8 October at 7:50 AM, the twenty-fourth highest hourly rainfall on daily basis and the highest since 28.6 mm in 2018 on 21 October 2018 at 3:14 PM.

Monthly highest hourly rainfall total (for November): 5.6 mm on the 1 November 2019 at 3:16 PM. This is the second lowest monthly hourly rain for November maximum hourly rainfall, the lowest since the current record low of 4.6 mm in 2011 on 26 November at 8:30 PM, the fifteenth highest daily hourly rainfall total and the highest since 9.4 mm on 21 November 2018 at 7:50 PM.

Seasonal rainfall summary

In September rainfall was well very below average with a total of 2.8 mm and 8.4% of the long term average which ranked as very low. Rainfall fell over 3 days which was 2.6 days below average. During September most of the main official sites in the Brisbane area observed totals of less than 10 mm of rain. In the Brisbane area most sites saw most rainfall occur during the second half of the month, with very little rainfall observed in the first half of the month. Even though rainfall totals were low there were some localised moderate falls towards the end of the month with some sites measuring totals of 20mm as a result. Very little rainfall observed at Ferny Grove during the September with some light showers bringing low rainfall totals in the second half of the month.

Rainfall in October was near average with a total of 48.5 mm which was 75.2% of the long term average and ranked as average. Rainfall was observed over 7 days which was 0.4 days below average. In October the main official sites in the Brisbane area measured below average rainfall totals at the inland sites and average to above average rainfall totals at the coastal and northern sites. During the start of the month over northern parts of Greater Brisbane was moderate falls from isolated thunderstorms. Between the 11th and 13th and the 15th and 19th were thunderstorms. For the rest of the month was very little rainfall. During October most rainfall totals at Ferny Grove were low and brought by brief thunderstorms (some were high-based) or light showers. No rainfall observed after the 20th of the month.

In November there was 14.2 mm of rainfall (below average) which was 14.8% of the long term average and ranked as very low. Rainfall was observed on 4 days which was 4.4 days below average. All of the main official sites in the Brisbane area saw well below average rainfall totals in November that were less than 50 mm. Numerous inland and coastal locations across the Greater Brisbane area saw the lowest November rainfall totals on record. Most of the rainfall in November at Ferny Grove was from showers for the first few days of the month. In the middle of the month and end of the month were some thunderstorms with very little rainfall.

Sunny with low relative humidity and a cold morning on the 1st
On the 2nd it was sunny with a warm day. The dew point became very low during the day before starting to recover in the evening. Very low daytime relative humidity.
A cool morning on the 3rd, low daytime relative humidity and dew point was very low in the afternoon
Smoke haze, a hot day and sunny on the 4th. The temperature rose quickly during the morning to 28ºC at 9am (6ºCin 3 hours). Low daytime dew point falling to extremely low levels in the afternoon recovering later in the day but remained low. Relative humidity became extremely low in the afternoon to a low of 2 to 3 % (1% for 1 minute). A new high record for daily temperature range of 25.8 ºC (from 8ºC to 34 C ºC). This is the highest for September and any month; previously the highest for this for all months: 24.4 ºC on 17 August 2018 and for September: 22.3 ºC on 16 September 2017. The maximum temperature was only the second time in last 10 years of a 30ºC + day in early September. The highest temperature in early September was previously 31.3 ºCon 4 September 2017.
A cool morning, a hot day and sunny with a record high temperature range on the 5th. Dew point remained low though recovered to some degree later in the day. Very low daytime relative humidity and fell to a low of 8% hovering around 10 to 15% in the afternoon. The temperature was stable for 2 hours in the middle of the day. Smoke haze.
Smoke and dust haze increased on the 6th with a hot day and sunny. The temperature was high and stable for 3 hours from 1 pm at 35 ºC after reaching 32 ºC at 10am. Low to extremely low daytime dew point (down to -30 ºC), temporarily recovering in the evening slightly before falling again. Extremely low daytime relative humidity which fell to 1% at 1pm, where it remained at this level before rising later in the afternoon and remained near 20% in the evening. Moderate and gusty NNE to NNW winds before a W to NW wind change at 11:50 pm. Extreme fire danger due to these conditions.
On the 7th it was sunny with very thick dust haze thinning from late afternoon. Low dew point and very low in the afternoon (minimum of -16 C). A hot morning. Relative humidity was very low remaining below 25% over entire day (minimum of 5%). Light to moderate and gusty WSW to NW winds.

On the 6th a cold front shifted eastwards across the state and approached the east coast later in the day. Ahead of the trough, hot, dry and windy conditions lead to elevated fire danger across southern Queensland. Very dry air and freshening winds ahead of the trough also.
A cold front shifted east on the 7th off the east Queensland coast and extended south to a large low pressure system shifting east across the Tasman Sea. This combined with a strong high pressure system over the Great Australian Bight slowly shifting eastwards that extends a ridge into central and northern parts of the state and a cool, dry and stable air mass across the state. A band of raised dust moved eastwards across the south and persisted during the day. Fresh south-westerly winds over the south following the passage of the trough with elevated fire danger
On the 8th a large high pressure system over the Great Australian Bight maintained a ridge over central and northern parts of the state. A large low pressure system in the Tasman Sea is combining with the high pressure system to extend a relatively cool, stable and very dry air mass across the south with elevated fire danger. The haze cleared offshore as the trough shifts further east
On the 9th a large high pressure system in the Great Australian Bight shifted slowly eastwards and maintains the ridge across central and northern parts of the state. A large low pressure system in the Tasman Sea combined to extend a cool and dry air mass across the state with windy and dry conditions in the region. Raised dust with elevated fire danger.
The 10th saw a large high pressure system over South Australia shifted eastwards and maintain a firm ridge through central and northern Queensland. A large low pressure system combined with the high pressure system to direct a cool and dry air mass over much of the state and windy conditions with elevated fire conditions over the region.
On the 11th a large high pressure system shifting eastwards over south-eastern Australia extended a ridge along the east Queensland coast. This extended a dry and stable air mass across the state. Smoke haze persisted over southern Queensland

On the 13th a weak high pressure system over New Zealand extended a ridge over northern and central Queensland and a stable air mass further south. A trough and a weak south-easterly wind change shifted through the region in the morning with hot and dry air with elevated fire dangers.
On the 14th a high pressure system in the Tasman Sea extends a ridge over Southern Queensland with a dry and stable air mass across the state. A south-easterly wind change shifted northwards along the south coast late in the day with the passage of a dry trough. Warm and dry air maintained elevated fire dangers.
A high pressure system over south-eastern Australia shifted eastwards, across southern Queensland and into the Tasman Sea late in the day. This extended a ridge with a dry and stable air mass across the state. Elevated fire dangers persisted across southern Queensland.
On the 16th a high pressure system in the Tasman Sea extended a ridge along the north east coast of the state and decayed over the rest of the state. Dry and stable over most of the state.

A surface trough shifted eastwards across the state, reaching south-eastern Queensland in the evening and extended to a low pressure system off the central NSW coast. A surface trough moved off the south coast in the morning of the 18th which extended to a low pressure system off the northeast NSW coast. On the 23rd a high pressure system near New Zealand extended a weakening ridge along the east Queensland coast with moist onshore winds along the coast. A surface trough is drifting east over the inland and extends to a cold front in the Tasman Sea. The southern end of the trough shifted into the region with a southerly wind change in its wake.
The 24th saw a northward moving surface trough decay while an upper level trough over central Queensland extended high cloud across the state with little rain. A high pressure system in the Tasman Sea extended a ridge along the east Queensland coast.
A high pressure system over southern Australia and the Tasman Sea extended a ridge along the east Queensland coast with some moist wind flow along the coast on the 25th. An upper trough over western parts of the state extended high cloud across the state.
On the 26th a high pressure system in the Tasman Sea extended moisture and onshore flow along the east Queensland coast. A surface trough and increased moisture interacted with a upper level trough moving eastwards to bring some rainfall across the south
On the 27th a high pressure system over the northern Tasman Sea extended a ridge along the east Queensland coast, and brought some moisture along the coast. A series of upper level troughs over the south interacted with the low level moisture and a persistent surface trough to produce instability
The 28th saw an upper level trough shift eastwards across the south and a slow moving surface trough brought some showers and thunderstorms over the region which contract north-east wards later in the day. The coastal section of the surface trough shifted northwards over the NSW east coast and into the south coast with northerly winds ahead of the trough
On the 29th a weak southerly wind change shifted northwards along the south coast decaying during the day
A surface trough moved onshore on the south coast on the 30th with some showers and thunderstorms with some localised heavy falls mostly on the coast as the surface trough moved northwards towards the Wide Bay coast. 1/9/19: Fine and sunny. Some limited cu cloud development in afternoon. Near average and falling dew point early becoming moderately low in the early morning, rising to near average in the early morning before falling and became moderately low in the late morning. From the mid-afternoon the dew point rose becoming near average and stable in the evening. A cold morning. Low afternoon relative humidity. Light and variable winds from early morning with some WSW to SSW winds until early afternoon. ENE to ESE winds in late afternoon and early evening, followed by light and variable winds at times in the evening.
2/9/19: Fine and sunny. A warm day. Moderately low and falling dew point early, before rising at dawn to near average in the early morning. From the mid-morning the dew point fell becoming very low in the afternoon to a low of -7 ºC in the late afternoon. In the late afternoon the dew point rose slightly and fell to -10 ºC before starting to rise later in the morning. Low relative humidity from later in the morning with a low of 9 %. Light and variable winds at times from early, WSW to SSW in early morning, then mostly SSE to NE light winds, ESE to NE in late afternoon and light and variable winds at times in the evening.
4/9/19: Fine and sunny. Smoke haze. A hot day. The temperature rose 20 ºC to 28 ºC at 9am and rose at a slower rate before falling slowly during the afternoon. The temperature fell quicker from 4pm. The dew point was moderately low and fell slowly early, before rising to near average during the early morning before rapidly falling to a very low level from the mid-morning. The dew point continued to fall fluctuating at extremely low levels in the afternoon with a low of -30 ºC. The dew point rose fast at 4pm before rising slower but remained low and was stable in the evening. Relative humidity fell from 8 am to extremely low levels, where is slowly fell with a low of 2 to 3 % (1% for 1 minute) before rising from 4pm. Light and variable winds in the early morning before WNW to SW winds, before shifting SE to NE from 4 pm and becoming calm in the evening.
5/9/19: Fine and sunny. A cool morning and a hot day. Smoke haze. Low and stable dew point early, falling further during the morning but was quite variable before rising from the early afternoon while remaining low and variable. In the evening the dew point became stable and moderately low before falling slowly later in the evening. The temperature was stable for 2 hours during the middle of the day. Low relative humidity and very low during the day and fluctuated in late morning and afternoon. Light E to SE winds in early morning, E to NE from mid-morning, ENE to NE in late afternoon, followed light and variable winds occasionally in the evening.
6/9/19: Fine and sunny. Increasing smoke and dust haze. A hot day and the temperature was high and stable for 2 hrs from 1pm. The temperature fell slower and started to rise in the late evening. Low and stable dew point early before rising during the early morning to near average before rapidly falling becoming extremely low. The dew point stabilised from the late morning and rose quickly in the late afternoon whilst remaining low. From the mid-evening the dew point started to fall again. Relative humidity was low from early before quickly falling from the early morning to extremely low in the late morning. The relative humidity stabilised before briefly rising sharply in the late afternoon before falling in the evening and remaining well below average at around 20%. Light and variable winds early, some SSW to ESE in early morning and NNE to NNW winds from the mid-morning. The wind was moderate and gusty at times in the afternoon before lower wind speed in the evening while remaining gusty. A W to NW wind change at 11:50 pm accompanied with a sharp rise in air pressure.
7/9/19: Fine and sunny. Thickening dust haze from morning, thinning from late afternoon. Low and generally stable dew point before falling from the early morning and becoming very low to a minimum of -16 ºC in the afternoon. The dew point steadily rose from the late afternoon while remaining low and was below 0 ºC for the entire day. A hot morning. Relative humidity was very low, remained below 25% over the entire day and an afternoon low of 5%. Light to moderate and gusty WSW to NW winds, easing to light from late afternoon.
8/9/19: Fine and sunny. Stable and low dew point early before falling from early morning to the minimum in the mid afternoon of -16 ºC and was quite variable later in the morning and in the afternoon. Dew point was below 0 ºC over the entire day. From the late afternoon the dew point rose but remained very low. Relative humidity was very low over the entire day with a maximum of 28% and an afternoon low of 7%. Light and gusty WSW to NW winds in the early hours and in the morning, increasing to light to moderate and gusty WNW to WSW in the afternoon and evening.

The dew point became extremely low from later in the morning falling to a low of -20 ºC in the afternoon. Very low and rising dew point from early in the day stabilising in the late morning. In the afternoon the dew point rose again above 0ºCand was low before falling slowly in the evening while remaining low. Low relative humidity from early in the day falling to a minimum of 19% in the afternoon and mostly recovering to near average during the evening. Light W to SW winds early, WNW to SW (some S to SW winds) in the morning, becoming variable from late morning, ESE to ENE in mid-afternoon, S to ESE later in the afternoon and light S to SW winds at times in the evening.
11/9/19: Fine. Sunny early with some sc clouds before becoming partly cloudy with cu clouds developing from later in the morning and easing in afternoon. Moderately low dew point early before rising in the early morning becoming stable from the late morning while fluctuating at times and rose slowly to near average in the late afternoon. In the evening the dew point fell slowly moderately low. Daytime relative humidity fluctuated but was near average. Dew point fell in the early hours moderately low before rising in the early morning to near average before quickly falling back to moderately low where it was generally stable through to the late afternoon. In the late afternoon the dew point rose to near average and then slowly fell later in the evening and became moderately low. Moderately low daytime relative humidity. Light S to WSW winds in the early morning before SSE to ENE winds from the mid-morning before light and variable winds from the late morning. 13/9/19: Fine and sunny. Smoke haze. Some limited cu clouds later in the morning and clearing in afternoon. A cool morning and a hot day. Moderately low and stable dew point early then rose to near average in the early morning before starting to fall. The dew point fell faster from 9am and fell through to the afternoon and became very low to a minimum of -24ºC for a brief period. From mid-afternoon the dew point rose becoming stable and moderately low later in the evening. Relative humidity fell quickly from 8am and became low in the afternoon and was around 5% between 12pm and 3 pm and briefly between 2 and 5%. In the evening the relative humidity recovered to moderately low. Light and variable winds at times early before light SE to NE winds in the early morning before a dry W to SW change at 9am. SSW to W winds in the afternoon, SSE to ESE from mid-afternoon becoming calm in the evening.
14/9/19: Fine. Smoke haze. A hot day. Moderately low dew point rising from early, rising quicker in the early morning to near average before falling from the mid-morning and for a brief period in the late morning very quickly. The dew point became very low from the late morning and variable into the afternoon before sharply rising at 4pm to moderately low. In the late afternoon the dew point rose to near average and fell slightly in the early evening and slowly rose for the rest of the evening. Relative humidity fell very quickly from the early morning becoming very low later in the morning. The relative humidity was stabilised at 5 to 10 % and briefly 3 to 5 % in the afternoon before sharply rising from 4 pm close to average. At around 8pm there was brief fall in the relative humidity before resuming the normal rising of relative humidity. Light and variable winds at times early before winds varying between N to SSW (through W) from early morning with some ESE to NNE winds in the early morning. SSE to ENE winds wind change from 4 pm and light SSE to ESE winds in the evening.
15/9/19: Fine and sunny. Some cu clouds in the morning and clearing in the afternoon. Smoke haze. Near average and stable dew point early, rising slightly in the early morning before falling from mid-morning. The dew point was a little variable at it fell and through the afternoon, moderately low in the early afternoon and was stable and near average in the evening. Variable and moderately low relative humidity in late morning and in the afternoon. Light and variable winds occasionally in the early hours before SE to SW winds and then SSE to ENE in the early morning, ESE to NE winds from mid-morning, E to NE from mid-afternoon, ENE to NE from late afternoon and N to NW in the late evening.
16/9/19: Fine and sunny. Near average dew point in the early hours slowly fell and became moderately low in the early morning before rising to near average and then fell from the mid-morning. In the early afternoon the dew point rose sharply to near average, then rose slowly until the mid morning before stabilising and started to fall slowly in the late evening. Moderately low daytime relative humidity. Some light and variable winds early before light NNE to E winds from early morning, E to NE in the afternoon, N to NE from late afternoon and NNE to NNW later in the evening.
17/9/19: Fine until some brief light showers between 4 and 5 pm and was followed by a mild high-based storm between 5:30 and 6 pm. Partly cloudy with ci and cs clouds from morning, cu from later in the morning and cloudy in afternoon with cb during the afternoon. Falling and near average dew point in the early hours became moderately low in the early morning before rising to near average in the early morning before falling again to moderately low later in the morning. The dew point rose in the afternoon and returned to near average before starting to fall in the late evening. Moderately low daytime relative humidity returning the near average in afternoon. Light and variable winds occasionally in the early hours followed by generally SE to NW winds. E to SE from late morning, SSE to ESE winds from mid-afternoon, and SSW to SE with the thunderstorm. 18/9/19: Fine and sunny. The temperature rose briefly at 3 am before falling again. A brief quick fall in the late afternoon. Near average dew point falling slowly in the early hours, quickly between 2 and 3 am before stabilising at a moderately low level. During the morning the dew point fell further becoming very low in the afternoon (to a low of -19 C), then rising sharply in the late afternoon and stabilised for the rest of the day and was moderately low. A fall in relative humidity from 87% at 2:20 am to 52% at 4:45am before resuming the normal early rising of relative humidity. Low daytime relative humidity, falling to a low of 6% in the afternoon, recovering in the evening. Light and variable winds early was generally SW to NW. Dry NNW to W winds from early morning, SSW to W in the late morning , NNE to W in the afternoon with some W to SW winds, before WSW to SSW winds in the mid-afternoon. In the late afternoon cooler and more humid air followed with ENE to SE winds easing to mostly calm in the evening.
19/9/19: Moderately low dew point early, rising to near average in the early morning and remaining near average for the rest of the day. During the morning and in the evening the dew point fell slightly and rose in the afternoon. The temperature rose briefly between 12 am and 1 am before falling. Near average dew point and generally stable early before rising during the morning and stabilising from the late afternoon and fell slightly in the evening. Light WSW to SSW winds from 12am to 1 am with light W winds occasionally early before a SE to E wind change during the early morning becoming ESE to NE from mid-morning with some N to NE winds in the morning. Later in the afternoon winds were ENE to NNE and became calm in the evening.

Near average dew point rising slowly from early morning, falling in the late morning while remaining near average before rising again during the middle of the day. The dew point then generally rose slowly in the afternoon and fell in the evening remaining near average. Variable daytime relative humidity. On the 7th was early fog with visibility down to 800 metres at 6:30 am before clearing. Cloudy at times in the afternoon and a hot day. Variable daytime temperature. Maximum temperature reached at midday before afternoon sea breezes
The 8th saw a very warm morning with very stable temperature. The maximum temperature was reached just before midday. Associated with gusty WNW to WSW winds the temperature rose from 25.8 C at 7:14pm to 29.9 C at 7:30pm and to 31 C at 8pm before falling for the rest of the evening. With this wind shift the dew point fell very low from 17.7 C at 7:12pm to 5.7 C at 7:15pm. An easterly wind change at 11:54pm caused the dew point to rise from 1.6 C at 11:54pm back to near average at 11 C at 11:55pm and 14.4 C at 11:59pm. The relative humidity also fell in the early evening and then rose later in the evening.

October weather influences

On the 1st a surface trough shifted northwards along the northern end of the southern Queensland coast reaching the central coast later in the day. A high pressure system that shifted east into the Tasman Sea extended a ridge along the east Queensland coast with some moist onshore flow to the south of the surface trough.
A high pressure system shifted east across the Tasman Sea maintaining the ridge along the east Queensland coast on the 2nd and 3rd as a upper trough of little impact shifted off the coast
The high pressure system weakened further on the 4th with the ridge contracting northwards with a weak pressure gradient as a result with settled weather over the region
An upper level trough cleared off the east coast with no effect on the 5th. A surface trough and south-easterly wind change shifted northwards along the southern Queensland coast with a warm air ahead of the trough
The 6th saw warm northerly flow and a upper level ridge extend a hot and dry air mass eastwards over southern and inland of the state reaching south-east late in the day
On the 7th an upper level ridge and northerly wind flow over the interior of the state extended eastwards bringing a warm air mass. A cold front also shifted eastwards into south-western Queensland to extend dry and gusty winds and produce high temperatures
A cold front and surface trough moved eastwards and northwards across the state reaching the east late in the day on the 8th. This dragged warm and dry air across from the west with elevated fire dangers.
On the 9th the cold front cleared off the east Queensland coast in the morning, while a surface trough persist over the interior. A large high pressure system over the Great Australian Bight extended a ridge and cooler southerly wind flow over southern Queensland in the wake of the trough. Elevated fire dangers eased as a result.
The 10th saw the large high pressure system extended a ridge and onshore flow along the east Queensland coast.
A weakening high pressure system over the southern Ocean extended a weak ridge and onshore flow over the southern Queensland coast on the 11th. A broad amplifying upper level trough and increasing moisture combined with a surface trough shifting eastwards towards the east Queensland coast brought showers, thunderstorms and rain area across the region
On the 12th the upper level trough shifted eastwards over south-eastern parts of the state and cleared off the coast during the day while the surface trough cleared off the coast later in the day. This brought further rainfall over the region. A high pressure system south of Tasmania then extended a ridge and onshore wind flow along the east Queensland coast

On the 17th a weak high pressure system in the Tasman Sea extended a weak ridge along the east Queensland coast. A surface trough shifted eastwards into south-eastern parts of the state while extending into the interior. This produced unstable conditions with some rainfall across the region
On the 18th the weak ridge persisted along the east Queensland coast. A weakening trough shifted northwards along the southern Queensland coast extending a south-easterly wind change northwards reaching the Fraser Island coast late in the day with dry conditions. Warm northerly flow also to the east of the surface trough.
A weak high pressure system north of New Zealand extended a weak ridge along the east Queensland coast on the 19th. A weakening surface trough near Fraser Island extended further inland and brought instability and warm air to the east of the surface trough
A south-easterly wind change shifted along the southern Queensland coast early on the 20th reaching the central coast later in the day. Following the wind change a dry and stable air mass extended across much of the state
On the 21st a high pressure system extended a ridge along the east Queensland coast and onshore wind flow with little moisture
The 22nd saw a high pressure system over south-eastern Australia extend a firm ridge and moderate to fresh onshore wind flow along the east Queensland coast
On the 23rd and 24th a high pressure system in the western Tasman Sea extended a firm ridge and onshore flow with continued stable air along the east Queensland coast
On the 25th the high pressure ridge contracted northwards as a surface trough shifted eastwards over the south with little instability. The trough also extended warm northerly air flow
The surface trough shifted further eastwards across the state with modest instability due to a warm and dry air mass on the 26th
On the 27th a coastal trough shifted northwards through the south-east of the state before stalling while extending into central Queensland. This brought some isolated instability
A new high pressure system moved into the Tasman Sea on the 28th and extended a ridge and onshore wind flow along the east Queensland coast. A slow moving surface trough is slowing shifting northwards along the northern end of the south Queensland coast while decaying which brought rainfall to its north to the north of Brisbane.
On the 29th to 31st a high pressure system in the Tasman Sea extended a ridge and onshore winds along the east Queensland coast with settled conditions.

8/10/19: A very warm morning with the temperature stable early in the day except for small rise in the temperature. The temperature rose during the morning with the maximum temperature reached just before midday. In the afternoon the temperature fluctuated while generally falling. The temperature rose between 3pm and 4pm before falling from 4pm. Associated with a shift in the wind the temperature rose from 25.8 ºC at 7:14pm to 29.9 ºC at 7:30pm and to 31 ºC at 8pm before falling for the rest of the evening. The temperature fell quicker with a wind change in the late evening. Dew point rose from early and became moderately high during the early morning, before briefly falling near average in the mid-morning. The dew point rose during the morning and afternoon becoming moderately high before falling from mid-afternoon returning to near average. With the shift in wind the dew point fell very low from 17.7 ºC at 7:12pm to 5.7 ºC at 7:15pm, before falling slowly and stabilising. In the late evening with a wind change the dew point rose from 1.6 ºC at 11:54pm back to near average at 11 ºC at 11:55pm and 14.4 ºC at 11:59pm. A small rise in temperature at 3 am and variable temperature during the morning and afternoon. Dew point was stable before falling in the early hours and then rising in the early morning close to average. For the rest of the morning the dew point fell before stabilising in the afternoon and evening. A warm morning and a cool day. The temperature was a little variable during the day and fell briefly in the late morning with the thunderstorm. The temperature was a little variable during the morning and afternoon. The temperature was stable during much of the evening except for a brief fall in temperature during the evening shower. Dew point was near average early before falling sharply from 8:55 am becoming moderately low in the late afternoon before rising sharply to near average in the early afternoon. The dew point then rose slowly for the rest of the day, rose briefly with the evening shower and fell slightly in the late evening. High relative humidity early and moderately low during the daytime. A weakening ridge and onshore wind flow extended along the east Queensland coast on the 3rd with some shower activity as a result
On the 4th the high pressure system maintained a weakening ridge over the east Queensland coast with some showers in the region. A surface trough also extended from north-west to south-east Queensland while slowly shifting eastwards bringing some instability
A cold front shifted eastwards over southern Queensland on the 5th and cleared off the south-eastern coast early in the day that extended a trough northwards. This extended a dry and gusty westerly wind change over the south with dry air and elevated fire dangers. A southerly wind changed then progressed northwards through the region late in the day.
On the 6th a high pressure system shifted eastwards over southern Queensland extended a dry and stable air mass across the state.
The 7th saw a weak high pressure system off the east Queensland coast extend a dry and stable air mass over eastern Queensland ahead of a surface trough shifting eastwards across the state. This extended hot air with dry conditions with elevated fire dangers to the east of the trough
A cold front moved through central and southern parts of the state on the 8th while a high pressure system in the Great Australian Bight reinforced the dry and stable conditions in the wake of the front with fine and settled conditions. The cold front shifted off the east Queensland coast on the 9th during the morning. A high pressure system moving into the Great Australian Bight maintained the dry air across the state following the front with dry and stable conditions. Elevated fire dangers remained.
On the 10th a high pressure system shifted slowly over South Australia and extended a ridge over southern Queensland which directed a very dry air mass over much of the system. Elevated fire dangers remained over the east of the state.

The weak ridge persisted along the east Queensland coast and over the south on the 12th with a weak high pressure system in the southern Coral Sea. As a cold front shifted eastwards over the south of the state elevated fire dangers persisted over eastern Queensland
On the 13th a surface trough shifted eastwards across the state which extended from the north-west to south-east of the state. The coastal section of the trough shifted northwards along the south coast during the day. To the east of the trough was some moist air, though elevated fire dangers persisted with and following the trough.
A surface trough extended from the north-west to the south-eastern inland of the state on the 14th with very dry air west of the trough and a moist air mass to the east of the trough. Warm air continues to be drawn eastwards ahead of the trough with elevated fire dangers continuing.
The surface trough remained slow moving on the 15th and maintained a moist air mass to its east, with some instability as a result. Dry air and elevated fire dangers remained over much of eastern Queensland
On the 16th the surface trough continued to be slow moving with a moderately moist air mass to its east with some instability. Hot and dry conditions with elevated fire dangers remained.
The 17th saw a slow moving surface trough remained with a continuation of dry conditions with elevated fire dangers over much of eastern Queensland. A southerly wind change shifted northwards along the south coast combined with the surface trough to produce some instability with showers and thunderstorms over the region
On the 18th the coastal trough shifted further north along the southern Queensland coast. The surface trough remained slow moving from north-west to south-east inland of the state with a relatively moist air mass to its east
The surface trough remained slow moving on the 19th with settled conditions continuing in the region with the elevated fire dangers remaining across southern Queensland
On the 20th a high pressure system in the Tasman Sea extended a ridge along the east Queensland coast. The inland trough therefore started to shift westwards with a relatively moist air mass to its east persisting. Elevated fire dangers remained over southern Queensland
A high pressure system in the central Tasman Sea extended a firm ridge along the east Queensland coast with settled conditions on the 21st and 22nd.
On the 23rd and 24th the ridge persisted as the high pressure system was slow moving in the Tasman Sea. A new inland trough remaining in place started to extend warmth eastwards into the region on the 24th.
The surface trough shifted slightly further east on the 25th while the high pressure ridge along the east coast continued with settled conditions in the region.
The ridge decayed and shifted offshore on the 26th. The inland trough remained over the inland to the south-eastern inland extending warmth into the region.
On the 27th and 28th the surface trough remained in place, while the coastal section of the trough shifted northwards on the 27th along the south coast of the state with some instability

6/11/19: Sunny with smoke and dust haze. A cold morning. Dew point slowly fell early in the day becoming very low in in the morning and fell below 0 ºC from midday. The dew point fell to a low of -9 ºC in the early afternoon before rising 10 ºC in 5 minutes at 1:10pm. The dew point continued to rise at a slower rate for the rest of the afternoon and was stable but moderately low during the evening. Low relative humidity over the entire day and was stable but low early in the day and fell to a low of 7% in the afternoon. The relative humidity rose from the early afternoon though remained low. From 8am the dew point fell very quickly and was between -20 ºC and -30 ºC from the late morning to early afternoon before falling slowly for much of the afternoon to a low of -30 C. In the evening the dew point rose quite quickly whilst remaining very low before falling again later in the evening to -20 ºC. Relative humidity was low over the entire day which fell quickly during the morning becoming 1 to 5 % from the late morning to early afternoon before staying at 1% for the rest of the afternoon. Dew point rose in the early hours whilst remaining low before stabilising in the mid-morning then falling quickly from 10am. For 3 hrs from 1pm the dew point was stable at -20 ºC to -30 ºC before briefly rising very quickly at 4:20pm (including rising 35 ºC in 1 minute) and then stabilised at moderately low for the rest of the day. Relative humidity was low over the entire day with the overnight maximum being 25% before dropping back very low during the morning and falling to 1% for much of the afternoon. In the late afternoon the relative humidity rose very quickly (including a rise of 21% in 1 minute) becoming moderately low in the late evening. The dew point was near average over the day falling during the morning, briefly rising sharply in the late morning before rising slowly in the afternoon and falling slowly from the late afternoon. Relative humidity was moderately low which briefly rose in the late morning and then rose slower for the rest of the day close to average. Calm winds early in the day with light WSW to SSW winds in the early morning, becoming N to NE after briefly S to SE. From the late morning was NNE to ESE winds, ESE to NE in the afternoon, ENE to NE from mid-afternoon, N to NE in the evening and became calm later in the evening.
16/11/19: Nearby thunderstorm with a light few drops in the mid-afternoon. Fine otherwise. Decreasing smoke haze during the day. A mostly sunny morning with some cu clouds. Clouds increased in the afternoon with cu, cb, ci and ac clouds. A hot day with the maximum temperature reached in the late morning. Near average and variable dew point. Relative humidity was moderately low during the morning and afternoon and was a little variable in the afternoon. Light and variable winds early, before SE to NE light winds developing in the morning and ESE to NE from the late morning. Winds became E to ENE during the afternoon, and was N to NE in the mid afternoon and in the evening. Winds shifted SSE to ESE from 8pm.
17/11/19: Smoke haze and increasing in the afternoon. Partly cloudy with cu clouds with cb, ac and ci clouds in the afternoon. A mild and brief thunderstorm in the early afternoon with a brief period of rainfall with large drops. Near average dew point early rising during the morning becoming moderately high at times in the afternoon and fell slightly later in the afternoon. After a brief rise in dew point whilst remaining near average the dew point fell with a wind change. A hot day with the maximum temperature reached at midday before increasing clouds and then rose following the thunderstorm. Relative humidity was moderately low early in the day, moderately high during the day and near average in the evening. The relative humidity fell slightly in the evening with the wind change. Light and variable winds early in the day with light E to NE winds from the late morning. Winds became light N to NE winds in the afternoon with some ENE to NE winds, before light and variable winds in the evening. Winds became S to SW from 8:30pm and then a wind change of S to SE from 10pm. Wind speed eased in the early evening and increased from 8pm with gusty light to moderate winds with the wind change easing later in the evening.
18/11/19: Partly cloudy with cu clouds. Smoke haze. Variable temperature in the morning and afternoon. Moderately low relative humidity early in the day before returning to near average for the rest of the day. Light S to SE with some S to SW winds early in the day, ESE to SSE from the mid-morning, ENE to SE from the early afternoon, ESE to NE from late afternoon became light and variable in the evening.
19/11/19: Partly cloudy with cu/sc clouds in the morning, clearing to some cu clouds and sunny from later in the morning. Smoke haze and increasing in the afternoon. A cool morning and a warm day. Dew point was near average and rose in the afternoon before stabilising later in the afternoon. Moderately low relative humidity during the daytime. Light NE to NW winds in the morning with some W to NW winds, ESE to NNE from the late morning, E to NE in the afternoon and N to NE in the evening.

Dew point was near average while generally rising before stabilising in the evening. Moderately low day-time relative humidity. Light and variable winds at times early in the day, light N to NE winds developing during the morning, E to ESE from mid-morning, ESE to ENE from late morning and E to NE in the afternoon and evening.

Data measured with professional moderate accuracy equipment. This replaced non professional equipment of low accuracy with differences in the measured data. The new equipment measures the daily average wind speed and wind run about 40 % higher. Daily rainfall and grass minimum temperature is measured using non-professional equipment of moderate accuracy.

Site Commencement data is April 15 2009 except for daily rainfall which commenced on January 1 1987. Not all variables have been measured over the entire station record. Most variables are measured over a 24 hour period ending in the evening and over a 24 hour period from midnight effective October 5 2018. Maximum temperatures are measured over the 24 hours from 9 am on the day of measurement. Minimum temperatures are measured over the 24 hours to 9 am of the day of measurement. Rainfall is measured over 24 hours to 9am and recorded on that day. This is the same as the official time standard. Some rainfall measurements are not made at 9am and is adjusted based on the automatic record. Minimum Grass Temperature is measured over an approx. 12 hour period ending in the early morning. MSL refers to Mean Sea Level, which is the standard meteorological method of measuring air pressure reduced to sea level based on both elevation and temperature. Grass Minimum Depression is the difference of the grass minimum temperature from the air temperatures and is a positive value when the grass temperature is below the air temperature.

Up until March 9 2019 automatic records as Dew Point, Average Wind Speed, Dominant Wind Direction, Wind Run, Rain Rate and Hourly Rain are measured over a 24 hour period starting at midnight and recorded for that day. This started on the 6 October 2011. The automatic record is used for some data and also may be used if data is not available/ not suitable. From March 9 2019 the automatic record became the official record instead, simplifying this process. Until replaced on 5 October 2018 the temperature and humidity sensor is under exposed so minimum temperature and maximum humidity are incorrect and low accuracy rain gauge is used which are not used as the site’s official record. This data limitation does not apply to other measurements of temperatures, air pressure and humidity, wind gust, daily and monthly rainfall and rain days elsewhere in this summary which are recorded separately and form the official record for this site. The replacement equipment is sited in more exposed locations and therefore the limitations don’t apply, though the automatic daily rainfall doesn’t form the official data for the site.

Long term averages are based on all available long period past measurements from October 2019 whilst for non automatic rainfall is based on 1987 to 2017 average from the station record, while. Prior to this the long term average for Temperature, Relative Humidity and Air pressure is based on 2009 to 2015 average from the station record and wind speed is based on the 2010 to 2018 average from station record. Wind Run is 2011 to 2018 and Rain Rate and High Hourly Rain is 2011 to 2017.

The Fraction of monthly average expresses how much has fallen in respect to the long term average listed as a percentage. The decile ranking compares the rainfall total to the historical record for the site where the record is divided into 10 equal groups. Decile 1 is the lowest 10% of the record (10th percentile) and Decile 10 (90th percentile) is the highest 10% of the record. Decile 1 is considered “very low”, decile 2 and 3 “low”, decile 4 to 7 “average”, decile 8 and 9 “high” and decile 10 “very high”.
