Monthly Meteorological Report for Ferny Grove, Brisbane in November 2019 – little rain, cool nights and hot days

Overnight temperatures in November were lower than average. Daytime temperatures were well above average and the highest on record. The official sites across the Brisbane area were near or above average for minimum temperatures at most sites though some sites were cooler than normal. All sites saw well above to very well above average daytime temperatures with records exceeded at many locations. Rainfall was well below average and record low at Ferny Grove. The official sites across the Brisbane area also observed very low rainfall totals and record low at some locations. At Ferny Grove air pressure was below average, mean, minimum and maximum relative humidity was below average and mean minimum relative humidity, below average mean and mean maximum dew point, well below average minimum dew point, above average wind speed, with 2 thunderstorms (2 thunder days).

 

Temperature – below average night time and very well above average day-time temperatures

Monthly Mean Minimum Temperature: 17.6 ºC, 0.9 ºC below average and 0.2 ºC higher than same month in 2018. This is the sixth highest and lowest on record for November and the highest since 18.6 ºC in 2015. Across the Brisbane area during November most official sites measured above average mean minimum temperatures whilst some sites observed below average or close to average mean minimum temperatures. The lowest mean minimum temperature observed was 15.7 ºC at Amberley (0.6 ºC below average). Several sites were close to average which were mostly the inland sites and these ranged between 0.5 ºC below average at Beaudesert (15.8 ºC) and 0.3 ºC above average at Gatton (16.3 ºC). Cape Moreton Lighthouse recorded the highest positive anomaly from the long term average of 1.2 ºC above average with a mean minimum temperature of 20.8 ºC and also observed the highest mean minimum temperature. The remaining sites measured above average mean minimum temperature of between 0.6 ºC and 0.9 ºC above average. Brisbane observed a mean minimum temperature of 19.6 ºC (0.8 ºC above average).

 

Monthly Mean Maximum Temperature: 32.1 ºC, 2.9 ºC above average and 1.6 ºC higher than same month in 2018. This is the equal highest on record for November, shared with 32.1 ºC in 2009. During November all of the official sites measured well above maximum temperatures of at least 1.5 ºC above average and 3 ºC to 4 ºC above average at the inland sites. 6 sites also exceeded or equalled records for November mean maximum temperatures. Gatton measured the highest mean maximum temperature since 1915 based on all available data. The lowest mean maximum temperature of all the official sites was 27.8 ºC at Redlands (Alexandra Hills). The lowest anomaly was 1.5 ºC above average at Brisbane Aero (28.4 ºC) and at Redcliffe (28.6 ºC). The remaining sites were at least 2 ºC above average and the inland sites were between 3.2 ºC above average at Archerfield (31.7 ºC) and 4.8 ºC above average at Gatton (35 ºC). Amberley observed a mean maximum temperature of 4.3 ºC above average (33.9 ºC). Brisbane observed a mean maximum temperature of 30.6 ºC (2.4 ºC above average).

 

Mean Monthly Temperature: 24.8 ºC, 1 ºC above average and 0.9 ºC higher than same month in 2018. This is the third highest on record for November and the highest since 25.1 ºC in 2015.

 

Lowest Temperature: 11.4 ºC on 10 November 2019 at 5:02 AM. Same month in 2018 was 12.6 ºC. This is the lowest monthly and daily minimum temperature for November on record, exceeding the previous record of 11.7 ºC in 2017 on 2 November at 5:05 AM. Official stations in the Brisbane area observed the lowest temperature of the month on the 6th, 7th and 10th and at Brisbane on the 7th. The lowest was 6.6 ºC at Amberley on the 10th and the highest was 15.1 ºC at Brisbane on the 7th. Cool nights were evident during much of the first half of the month and especially in the second week with very few cool nights for the rest of the month.

 

Highest Temperature: 40.3 ºC on 8 November 2019 at 1:23 PM. The same month in 2018 was 37.2 ºC. This is the highest monthly and daily maximum temperature for November on record, exceeding the previous record high of 39.6 ºC in 2014 on 16 November at 2:10 PM. The official sites measured the highest temperature for the month on the 8th and 16th at most sites, and some sites in the 5th, 7th, 13th and 20th. The lowest was 29 ºC at Cape Moreton Lighthouse on the 5th and the highest was 40.2 ºC at Amberley on the 16th. Brisbane observed its highest temperature of 34.8 ºC on the 7th. The majority of days saw above average maximum temperatures across all sites throughout the month and particularly between the 7th and 20th. The inland sites saw several days of temperature at or near 40 ºC.

 

Lowest Maximum Temperature: 24.8 ºC on 1 November 2019 at 10:27 AM. This is the third highest monthly lowest maximum temperature for November on record, the highest since 26.4 ºC in 2016 on 1 November at 12:50 PM, the equal fourteenth lowest maximum temperature for November and equal lowest since 24.4 ºC on 9 November 2018 at 1:50 PM. This month in 2018 was 24.4 ºC. Most of the official stations in the Brisbane area measured the coolest day on the 1st and at some sites on the 2nd, 5th, 6th and 11th. These ranged between 24.4 ºC at Cape Moreton Lighthouse on the 1st and 28.5 ºC at Gatton on the 2nd and 5th. Most of the cool days were experienced in the first few days of the month and few days at some sites during the rest of the month.

 

Highest Minimum Temperature: 22.9 ºC on 28 November 2019 at 7:50 AM. This is the third highest monthly November highest minimum temperature on record, the sixth highest daily minimum temperature for November and the highest since 23.5 ºC in 2015 on 29 November at 9:52 PM. This month in 2018 was 22.6 ºC. During the month the official stations in the Brisbane area measured the warmest nights scattered throughout the second half of the month. These ranged between 21.8 ºC at Gatton on the 27th and 23.1 ºC at Amberley on the 21st. In the Brisbane area warm nights were observed throughout the month especially towards the end of the month.

 

Monthly Mean Minimum Grass Temperature: 15.8 ºC (0.5ºC higher than same month in 2018).

 

Lowest Minimum Grass Temperature: 8.9 ºC on 10 November 2019 (1.1 ºC lower than same month in 2018). This coincided with the lowest minimum temperature of 11.4 ºC for the month.

 

Highest Minimum Grass Temperature: 21.9 ºC on 28 November 2019 (0.9 ºC higher than same month in 2018). This coincided with the highest minimum temperature of 22.9 ºC for the month.

 

Highest Minimum Grass Temperature Depression: 0.8 ºC on 24 November 2019 with a minimum grass temperature of 16.8 ºC and an air temperature of 17.6 ºC.

 

Lowest Minimum Grass Temperature Depression: 4.9 ºC on 9 November 2019 with a minimum grass temperature of 17.4 ºC and an air temperature of 22.3 ºC.

 

Minimum temperatures were mostly near or below average and there were some above average temperatures later in the month. The month started with below average temperatures of 2 ºC to 3 ºC below average on the 1st to 3rd and warming to 1 ºC above average on the 4th and 5th. It cooled again to 6 ºC to 7 ºC below average on the 6th to 8th, before warming to 4 ºC above average on 9th and cooled to 7 ºC below average on the 10th. On the 11th to 13th it was 2 ºC to 3 ºC below average and within 1 ºC of the long term average on the 15th to 18th, 2 ºC below average on the 19th and near average on the 20th. The 21st was 4 ºC above average, 1 ºC below average on the 22nd, equal to the long term average on the 23rd and 1 ºC below average on the 24th. On the 25th it cooled to 2 ºC below average, rising to 1 ºC above average on the 26th, 2 ºC above average on the 27th, 4 ºC below average on the 28th, and 2 ºC above average on the 29th and 30th.

 

Maximum temperatures during November were predominately above average with several days that were well above average. The month started being 4 ºC below average on the 1st, 2 ºC below average on the 2nd and 1 ºC below average on the 3rd. The 4th was 5 ºC above average, 1 ºC to 2 ºC on the 5th and 6th, increasing to 6 ºC above average on the 7th to the highest temperature for the month on the 8th that was 11 ºC below average. The 9th was 3 ºC above average, 5 ºC above average on the 10th, easing to 1 ºC below average on the 11th, before increasing to 4 ºC above average on the 12th, 7 ºC above average on the 13th, and easing to 2 ºC above average on the 14th. The warmth continued with the 15th being 5 ºC above average, 7 ºC above average on the 16th, 4 ºC above average on the 17th, and cooled to 1 ºC below average on the 18th. The 19th was 4 ºC above average, 6 ºC above average on the 20th and reducing to 1 ºC above average on the 21st and 22nd. The 23rd to 25th was 2 ºC above average, 3 ºC above average on the 26th, 4 ºC above average on the 27th, easing to 1 ºC below average on the 28th, 3 ºC above average on the 29th and 6 ºC above average on the 30th.

MSL pressure – below average air pressure

Monthly Mean Minimum MSL Pressure: 1010.9 hPa (1 hPa lower than same month in 2018). This is the fifth lowest on record for November and the highest since 1014.7 hPa in 2017.

 

Monthly Mean Maximum MSL Pressure: 1016.8 hPa (1.5 hPa higher than same month in 2018). This is the fifth lowest on record for November and the highest since 1018.8 hPa in 2017.

 

Monthly Mean MSL Pressure: 1013.9 hPa (1.2 hPa below average, 1.2 hPa higher than same month in 2018). This is the fifth lowest on record for November and the highest since 1016.8 hPa in 2017.

Lowest MSL Pressure: 1001.3 hPa on 8 November 2019 at 4:07 PM. The same month in 2018 saw 995 hPa. This is the third lowest monthly minimum air pressure for November, the highest since 1007.6 hPa in 2017 on 7 November at 2:10 AM, the fifth lowest daily minimum air pressure for November and the lowest since the current record low of 995.0 hPa in 2018 on 28 November at 1:52 PM.

 

Highest MSL Pressure: 1021.6 hPa on 2 November 2019 at 8:27 AM. The same month in 2018 saw 1026.2 hPa. This is the third lowest November monthly maximum air pressure, the lowest since 1020.9 hPa in 2011 on 11 November at 8:30 PM, the twentieth highest daily maximum air pressure for November and the highest since 1022 hPa on 3 November 2018 at 12:03 AM.

Note: Air pressure measurements are being closely monitored to maintain its accuracy. Over the month of November, a difference of 0.02 hPa higher compared to the official BoM Brisbane site – No. 040913 was observed which is deemed acceptable.

 

Relative Humidity – well below average mean humidity, mean minimum humidity, and mean maximum humidity

Monthly Mean Minimum Humidity: 27.6 % (9.5 % lower than same month in 2018 and 10.4 % below average). This is the lowest on record for November exceeding the previous record low of 37.1% in 2018.

 

Monthly Mean Maximum Humidity: 77.7 % (7.4 % lower than same month in 2018 and 5.0 % below average). This is second lowest on record for November and the lowest since the current record low of 76.9 % in 2016.

 

Monthly Mean Humidity: 52.7 % (8.4 % lower than same month in 2018 and 7.7 % below average). This is the second lowest on record for November and the lowest since the current record low of 59.1% in 2009.

 

Lowest Humidity: 1 % on 10 November 2019 at 12:28 PM (9 % lower than this month in 2018). This is the lowest monthly and daily minimum humidity for November on record exceeding the old record of 10 % on 24 November 2018 at 2:44 PM.

 

Highest Humidity: 92 % on 2 November 2019 at 5:28 AM (5 % lower than this month in 2018). This is the third lowest monthly November maximum humidity on record and the lowest since 87% in 2016 on 13 November at 4:35 AM.

 

Dew point – below average mean and mean maximum dew point and well below average minimum dew point

Monthly mean minimum dew point: 4.4 ºC (7 ºC below average). This is the lowest monthly mean minimum dew point for November on record exceeding the old record of 11.2 ºC in 2018.

 

Monthly mean maximum dew point: 16.6 ºC (1 ºC below average). This is the second lowest monthly mean maximum dewpoint for November and the lowest since the current record low of 15.6 ºC in 2009.

Monthly mean dew point: 10.5 ºC (4 ºC below average). This is the lowest monthly mean dew point for November on record exceeding the previous record low of 14.6 ºC in 2018.

 

Lowest dew point: -31.9 ºC on 8 November 2019 at 9:01 PM. This is the lowest monthly and daily dew point for November on record, exceeding the previous record of -4.1 ºC on 24 November 2018 at 2:24 PM.

 

Highest dew point: 20.8 ºC November 2019 at 9:16 AM. This is the third lowest monthly maximum dew point on record for November, the lowest since 19.6 ºC in 2010 on 16 November at 12:34 PM, the equal thirty-sixth highest daily dew point for November and the highest since 22.6 ºC on 28 November 2018 at 8:55 AM.

 

Wind Speed – above average wind speed

Maximum Wind Gust: 64 km/hr on 5 November 2019 at 11:46 AM. This is the fourth highest November maximum wind gust and the highest since 68.7 km/hr in 2017 on the 9 November at 3:53 PM. The maximum wind gust this month in 2018 was 54 km/hr. This is the fifth highest daily wind gust on record for November and the highest since 68.7 km/hr in 2017 on the 9 November at 3:53 PM.

 

Maximum Wind Speed: 33 km/hr on 5 November 2019 at 1:45 PM (Fresh Force Wind). This is the fourth lowest monthly maximum wind speed for November on record, the highest since 40.6 km/hr in 2017 on 9 November at 3:55 PM, the eleventh highest daily wind speed on record for November and the highest since the aforementioned 40.6 km/hr in November 2017.

Wind Run: 4788.7 km (1267.3 km higher than same month in 2018), 1574.5 km above average and 50 % above average. This is the highest on record for November total wind run exceeding the previous record of 3521.4 km in 2018.

 

Monthly Mean Wind Speed: 6.7 km/hr (1.8 km higher than this month in 2018), 2.5 km/hr above average and 57.6 % above average. This is the highest on record for November exceeding the previous record high of 2.9 km/hr in 2013.

 

Daily Mean Maximum Wind Gust: 33.2 km/hr (4.9 km/hr lower than this month in 2018), 7.9 km/hr above average and 31.0 % above average. This is the fifth lowest daily mean maximum wind speed on record for November and the highest since 34.2 km/hr in 2017.

 

Daily Mean Maximum Wind Speed: 17.9 km/hr, 3.5 km/hr lower than this month last year, 7.4 km/hr above average and 70.7 % above average. This is the fourth highest daily mean maximum wind speed on record for November and the highest since 35.5 km/hr in 2017.

 

Dominant Direction: ENE (NNE this month last year).

 

Rainfall – near average rainfall

Monthly Rainfall Total: 14.2 mm (81.7 mm below average) and 14.8% of the long term average. This total is in decile 1/ 6th percentile which ranks as very low and 64.8 mm below the long term median (6.5 % of long term median). This total is lower than this month last year which was 21.6 mm, and the lowest on record for November exceeding the previous record low of 18.1 mm in 2011. Year to date rainfall is 54.9% of the long term average. The year-to-date rainfall total at Brisbane is about 50% of the long term average. Several long period rainfall totals have continued to see well below average rainfall totals at Ferny Grove. June to November rainfall is 158 mm (149.1 mm below average), which is in the lowest 10 % of the records and the lowest since 148.5 mm in 2004. The 9 monthly rainfall total is 499.6 mm (130.4 mm below average and in the lowest 20% of records) and is the lowest since 433.7 mm in 2014. 12 monthly and 18 monthly rainfall totals also shows a strong negative anomaly from the long term average.

 

All of the main official sites in the Brisbane area saw well below average rainfall totals in November that were less than 50 mm. Numerous inland and coastal locations across the Greater Brisbane area saw the lowest November rainfall totals on record. Additionally many sites saw November rainfall totals that were the lowest in at least 20 years. The highest rainfall total of the main sites was 41.2 mm at Beerburrum which ranked as low (37% of the long term average). Beerburrum also observed the highest percentage of the long term average of all the main sites. The lowest rainfall total was 0.4 mm at Amberley (1% of the long term average) and ranked as the lowest on record. Brisbane also ranked as lowest on record with a total of 9.6 mm (11% of the long term average) along with Cape Moreton Lighthouse with a total of 4.6 mm (5% of the long term average and Gatton with a total of 0.8 mm (1% of the long term average). Except for 30mm at Logan City Treatment Plant (30% of the long term average) that ranked as low the remaining sites ranked as very low with totals ranging between 6% (Beaudesert with a total of 4.8 mm) and 25% of the long term average (Brisbane Aero with a total of 23.2 mm). The highest total of all the official sites was 154 mm at Landsborough and the lowest total was 43.8 mm at Caloundra Airport.

 

On the 17th severe thunderstorms brought moderate falls and large hail over northern suburbs of Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast.

 

Number of Rain Days (0.1 mm or greater): 4 days, 2 less than this month in 2018 and 4.4 days below average. This is the equal lowest on record for November and is the equal lowest since 4 days in 2011.

 

Highest Daily Total: 6.7 mm on 2 November 2019. This is the lowest November daily rainfall on record on monthly basis, exceeding the previous record low of 7 mm on 2 November 1994, the seventy-fourth highest November daily rainfall on record on daily basis and the highest since 11.5 mm on 22 November 2018. The highest daily total in the Brisbane area of all official sites was 29 mm at Caloundra Airport on the 18 November 2019.

 

Monthly Rainfall Total – (automatic gauge) 24 hours to 9am: 12.6 mm (1.6 mm less than the site official standard gauge and within 11.3 %). Highest daily total of automatic gauge, (24 hours to 9am): 5.2 mm on 2 November 2019, (24 hours from midnight): 8.4 mm on 1 November 2019.

 

Note: This automatic gauge for the month of November, fails the expected accuracy (of +/- 10% of the standard gauge) at -11.3% due to low daily rainfall totals affecting the accuracy of the monthly total.

 

On the 1st was some light few drops followed by a brief heavy shower in the early morning. 2 mm was measured on the 1st before light showers in the late morning and early afternoon followed by a light to moderate shower in the early afternoon. 6.7 mm was measured on the 2nd followed by a late morning light shower and light showers in the late morning. On the 3rd 2.5 mm was measured after light showers and drizzle early in the day clearing during the mid-morning. On the 16th was a nearby thunderstorm with a light few drops in the mid afternoon. In the mid-afternoon of the 17th was a mild and brief thunderstorm with a brief period of rainfall with large drops. 3 mm was measured on the 18th. On the 30th were a few drops of rain in the early evening from a decaying mild thunderstorm.

 

There was 0 days with falls of at least 25 mm (1 less than same month in 2018) with 4 days of less than 1 mm (2 less than same month in 2018).

 

Highest rainfall rate was 53 mm/hr on the 1 November 2019 at 6:42 AM. This is the second lowest monthly rainfall rate for November, the lowest since 9.6 mm/hr in 2011 on 26 November at 6:40 PM, the fourteenth highest daily rainfall rate for November and the highest since 202.2 mm/hr on 21 November 2018 at 9:00 PM.

 

The highest hourly rainfall total was 5.6 mm on the 1 November 2019 at 3:16 PM. This is the second lowest monthly hourly rain for November maximum hourly rainfall, the lowest since the current record low of 4.6 mm in 2011 on 26 November at 8:30 PM, the fifteenth highest daily hourly rainfall total and the highest since 9.4 mm on 21 November 2018 at 7:50 PM.

Remarks for month:

• Cloudy on the 1st with some showers and a cool day. The maximum temperature was reached in the late morning
• Very variable temperature on the 2nd with showers. Briefly high relative humidity during the middle of the day.
• High relative humidity early in the day of the 3rd with showers and cloudy skies clearing during the morning.
• Cloudy during the morning on the 4th and a warm day
• Dust haze developed on the 5th and sunny from the late morning. Dew point and relative humidity fell during the daytime and became very low in increasing gusty WNW to WSW winds and fresh briefly before an E to SE wind change at 6:49pm. The dew point rose 18 ºC in 6 minutes and the relative humidity rose 29% with the wind change
• A cold morning on the 6th with smoke and dust haze. The dew point and relative humidity became low during the day before rising from the afternoon while remaining moderately low with dry SW to NW winds followed by the sea breeze in the afternoon.
• Sunny with smoke haze on the 7th. A cold morning was followed by a hot day. The dew point and relative humidity fell again and became very low during the day followed by a sharp rise in the afternoon while remaining below average as W to WNW winds shifted NE to SE with a sea breeze.
• On the 8th was smoke haze, with a cold morning and a hot day. In the afternoon the temperature was at 40 ºC for 3 hours and warm during the evening. The dew point and relative humidity fell during the day and became very low in the afternoon, temporarily recovering in the evening before falling again. Gusty light W to WNW winds from the morning.
• Smoke haze with a warm morning on the 9th. The temperature was stable at near 30 ºC during most of the afternoon. Relative humidity was very low over the entire day and was at 1% for much of the afternoon before rising in the evening with a 21% rise in 1 minute while remaining low. Dew point was low over the entire day and fell to very low in the afternoon before recovering partially later in the afternoon.
• Sunny with smoke haze on the 10th with a cold morning and a warm day. Dew point was low and fell again during the day into the afternoon before rising while remaining low in the evening. Relative humidity was also low over the entire day and became very low in the afternoon.
• Very thick smoke haze on the 11th with a cool morning. The temperature was variable in the morning and afternoon. The dew point returned to near average from the morning and near average relative humidity.
• The 12th was a cool morning and a warm day with smoke haze increasing in the afternoon. Low relative humidity during the morning.
• Sunny with smoke haze on the 13th. A hot day with the maximum temperature reached in the late morning before a moderate E to SE wind change at 11:30am. Dew point and relative humidity was low before the wind change before improving following the wind change. Gusty NNW to SW winds during the morning.
• Sunny on the 14th and 15th
• Smoke haze and a warm day on the 15th. The temperature was variable in the morning and afternoon.
• The smoke haze decreased on the 16th. Clouds increased in the afternoon with a nearby thunderstorm. A hot day with the maximum temperature reached in the late morning.
• On the 17th was smoke haze that increased in the afternoon. Clouds increased in the afternoon with a mild thunderstorm. A hot day with the maximum temperature reached at midday before the increasing clouds. A gusty light to moderate S to SE wind change at 10pm

• Sunny from the late morning of the 19th with smoke haze remaining which increased in the afternoon. A cool morning and a warm day.
• Sunny on the 20th with smoke haze that increased in the afternoon. A hot day with the maximum temperature reached in the late morning

• The temperature was variable from mid to late morning of the 29th
• Smoke haze on the 30th. A hot day with the maximum temperature reached in the late morning coinciding with cooler winds.

 

Weather influences

• On the 1st a high pressure system in the Tasman Sea extended a ridge and moderate to fresh south-easterly winds along the east Queensland coast with showers
• The moist onshore wind flow along the east Queensland coast continued on the 2nd as a high pressure system remained in the Tasman Sea. A weakening upper level trough shifted through the region also
• A weakening ridge and onshore wind flow extended along the east Queensland coast on the 3rd with some shower activity as a result
• On the 4th the high pressure system maintained a weakening ridge over the east Queensland coast with some showers in the region. A surface trough also extended from north-west to south-east Queensland while slowly shifting eastwards bringing some instability
• A cold front shifted eastwards over southern Queensland on the 5th and cleared off the south-eastern coast early in the day that extended a trough northwards. This extended a dry and gusty westerly wind change over the south with dry air and elevated fire dangers. A southerly wind changed then progressed northwards through the region late in the day.
• On the 6th a high pressure system shifted eastwards over southern Queensland extended a dry and stable air mass across the state.
• The 7th saw a weak high pressure system off the east Queensland coast extend a dry and stable air mass over eastern Queensland ahead of a surface trough shifting eastwards across the state. This extended hot air with dry conditions with elevated fire dangers to the east of the trough
• A cold front moved through central and southern parts of the state on the 8th while a high pressure system in the Great Australian Bight reinforced the dry and stable conditions in the wake of the front with fine and settled conditions. Elevated fire dangers were present with high temperatures, low humidity and gusty winds
• The cold front shifted off the east Queensland coast on the 9th during the morning. A high pressure system moving into the Great Australian Bight maintained the dry air across the state following the front with dry and stable conditions. Elevated fire dangers remained.
• On the 10th a high pressure system shifted slowly over South Australia and extended a ridge over southern Queensland which directed a very dry air mass over much of the system. Elevated fire dangers remained over the east of the state.
• A weak ridge extended over southern Queensland on the 11th as a weak high pressure system moved into the Tasman Sea and continued to direct a very dry air mass over much of the state with elevated fire dangers over eastern Queensland
• The weak ridge persisted along the east Queensland coast and over the south on the 12th with a weak high pressure system in the southern Coral Sea. As a cold front shifted eastwards over the south of the state elevated fire dangers persisted over eastern Queensland
• On the 13th a surface trough shifted eastwards across the state which extended from the north-west to south-east of the state. The coastal section of the trough shifted northwards along the south coast during the day. To the east of the trough was some moist air, though elevated fire dangers persisted with and following the trough.
• A surface trough extended from the north-west to the south-eastern inland of the state on the 14th with very dry air west of the trough and a moist air mass to the east of the trough. Warm air continues to be drawn eastwards ahead of the trough with elevated fire dangers continuing.
• The surface trough remained slow moving on the 15th and maintained a moist air mass to its east, with some instability as a result. Dry air and elevated fire dangers remained over much of eastern Queensland
• On the 16th the surface trough continued to be slow moving with a moderately moist air mass to its east with some instability. Hot and dry conditions with elevated fire dangers remained.
• The 17th saw a slow moving surface trough remained with a continuation of dry conditions with elevated fire dangers over much of eastern Queensland. A southerly wind change shifted northwards along the south coast combined with the surface trough to produce some instability with showers and thunderstorms over the region
• On the 18th the coastal trough shifted further north along the southern Queensland coast. The surface trough remained slow moving from north-west to south-east inland of the state with a relatively moist air mass to its east
• The surface trough remained slow moving on the 19th with settled conditions continuing in the region with the elevated fire dangers remaining across southern Queensland
• On the 20th a high pressure system in the Tasman Sea extended a ridge along the east Queensland coast. The inland trough therefore started to shift westwards with a relatively moist air mass to its east persisting. Elevated fire dangers remained over southern Queensland
• A high pressure system in the central Tasman Sea extended a firm ridge along the east Queensland coast with settled conditions on the 21st and 22nd.
• On the 23rd and 24th the ridge persisted as the high pressure system was slow moving in the Tasman Sea. A new inland trough remaining in place started to extend warmth eastwards into the region on the 24th.
• The surface trough shifted slightly further east on the 25th while the high pressure ridge along the east coast continued with settled conditions in the region.
• The ridge decayed and shifted offshore on the 26th. The inland trough remained over the inland to the south-eastern inland extending warmth into the region.
• On the 27th and 28th the surface trough remained in place, while the coastal section of the trough shifted northwards on the 27th along the south coast of the state with some instability
• The surface trough remained in place on the 29th with settled conditions over the region due to a relatively moist air mass to the east of the surface trough.
• On the 30th the surface trough shifted further east and brought some instability in the region.

Daily weather notes

• 1/11/19: Cloudy with cu and ns clouds. A cool day with very variable temperature during the morning and afternoon. The maximum temperature was reached in the late morning. A light few drops followed by a brief heavy shower in the early morning. Light showers in the late morning and early afternoon. A light to moderate shower in the early afternoon. Dew point was near average and generally rose from early in the day but was quite variable, stabilised in the afternoon and slowly fell in the evening while remaining near average. Moderately low relative humidity early in the day and from mid-morning to mid-afternoon was very variable and high at times (with the showers). From mid-afternoon relative humidity was near average. Light W to SW winds in the early morning, S to ESE winds from mid-morning, SSE to E winds in the afternoon with some E to NE winds, E to NE with some N to NE winds from late afternoon and became calm in the mid-evening.
• 2/11/19: Partly cloudy with cu clouds and some ci clouds in the afternoon. Late morning light shower and light showers in the late evening. The temperature was very variable during the morning and afternoon. The maximum temperature was reached in the late morning with the shower. Near average dew point rose during the morning, fell sharply in the mid-morning and was generally stable for the rest of the day while remaining near average. The dew point rose briefly with the midday shower. Near average relative humidity became briefly high during the middle of the day. Light ESE to ENE winds from early morning, E to NE from the afternoon and N to NE later in the evening.
• 3/11/19: Cloudy during the morning becoming partly cloudy from late morning with cu clouds and in the afternoon was ci clouds. Light showers and drizzle in the early hours and during the morning clearing in the mid-morning. Variable temperature during the morning and early afternoon. Dew point was stable and near average before rising to moderately high later in the morning , before falling back to near average in the middle of the day and became near stable for the rest of the day. High relative humidity early and near average for the rest of the day. Winds became light N to ENE from the morning, increasing light E to NE winds in the afternoon and N to NE in the evening.
• 4/11/19: Cloudy periods becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon with ci, sc and ac clouds. A warm day with variable temperature from mid-morning to mid-afternoon. Dew point was stable and near average before rising during the early afternoon, stabilised during the afternoon and then slowly fell from late afternoon. Light N to NE winds became NW to NE later in the morning with some E to NE winds, variable winds in the late morning and afternoon, becoming E to SE in the early afternoon, E to NE from mid-afternoon with also some N to NE winds in the evening and calm in the late evening.
• 5/11/19: Partly cloudy with cu clouds, sunny with some clouds from later in the morning. Dust haze developed from the morning. Temperature varied between 28 and 30 ºC from mid-morning to mid-afternoon. Dew point fell from early in the day and became moderately low in the morning, falling into the negative from midday and became very low into the afternoon. The dew point reached a low of -20 ºC in the mid-afternoon, remaining at this low level until late afternoon. In the early evening with a wind change the dew point rose 18 ºC in 6 minutes at 6:48pm but remained low and stable for the rest of the day. Relative humidity was stable early in the day and was variable in the early hours. The relative humidity continued to fall during the day becoming 3 to 5 % in the afternoon. Associated with a wind change the relative humidity also rose 29% in 10 minute during the early evening. Relative humidity was moderately low and stable for the rest of the day. Mostly light W to NW winds from early in the day and increased during the morning becoming light to moderate and gusty later in the morning. In the afternoon gusty WNW to WSW winds remained briefly fresh before easing during the afternoon being W to SW later in the afternoon. A maximum sustained wind speed of 33 kph and wind gust of 64 km/hr. An E to SE wind change from 6:49pm becoming light and variable later in the evening.
• 6/11/19: Sunny with smoke and dust haze. A cold morning. Dew point slowly fell early in the day becoming very low in in the morning and fell below 0 ºC from midday. The dew point fell to a low of -9 ºC in the early afternoon before rising 10 ºC in 5 minutes at 1:10pm. The dew point continued to rise at a slower rate for the rest of the afternoon and was stable but moderately low during the evening. Low relative humidity over the entire day and was stable but low early in the day and fell to a low of 7% in the afternoon. The relative humidity rose from the early afternoon though remained low. Light W to NW winds at times early in the day, becoming W to SW during the morning, S to SW from mid-morning, variable winds in the late morning and early afternoon before winds shifted NE to ESE from early afternoon increasing the humidity. Later in the evening winds became ENE to NNE and then calm.
• 7/11/19: Fine and sunny. Smoke haze. A cold morning and a hot day. The dew point was stable and moderately low early in the day before falling during the morning and fell very quickly later in the morning. From the late morning to the early afternoon the dew point was between -20 ºC and -30 ºC before rising sharply in the early afternoon and rose slower for the rest of the afternoon but remained below average. From the late afternoon the dew point was stable. Relative humidity also fell during the morning and much quicker from 10 am hovering between 3 and 5% from the late morning to early afternoon, before steadily rising for the rest of the day whilst remaining well below average. Light E to NNE winds in the early morning, then SW to SE and variable winds until the late morning. W to NW light winds from late morning to early afternoon, NE to SE becoming E to ENE winds from early afternoon. Later in the evening was N to NE winds that became calm.
• 8/11/19: Fine with smoke haze. A cold morning and a hot day. The temperature was stable for 3 hours at 40 ºC from 4pm. The temperature rose later in the evening and was 29 ºC at the end of the day. Dew point was moderately low and stable early in the day before slowly rising. From 8am the dew point fell very quickly and was between -20 ºC and -30 ºC from the late morning to early afternoon before falling slowly for much of the afternoon to a low of -30 C. In the evening the dew point rose quite quickly whilst remaining very low before falling again later in the evening to -20 ºC. Relative humidity was low over the entire day which fell quickly during the morning becoming 1 to 5 % from the late morning to early afternoon before staying at 1% for the rest of the afternoon. In the evening the relative humidity rose to 19% before slipping back to 3 % at the end of the day. Light and variable winds at times early in the day before light SSE to E winds early in the morning, then light but gusty W to NW winds with some N to NE winds from mid-morning. In the evening was NNW to WNW winds easing in speed in the evening increasing later in the evening.
• 9/11/19: Fine and sunny. Smoke haze. A warm morning. The temperature was stable at around 30 ºC during most of the afternoon. Dew point rose in the early hours whilst remaining low before stabilising in the mid-morning then falling quickly from 10am. For 3 hrs from 1pm the dew point was stable at -20 ºC to -30 ºC before briefly rising very quickly at 4:20pm (including rising 35 ºC in 1 minute) and then stabilised at moderately low for the rest of the day. Relative humidity was low over the entire day with the overnight maximum being 25% before dropping back very low during the morning and falling to 1% for much of the afternoon. In the late afternoon the relative humidity rose very quickly (including a rise of 21% in 1 minute) becoming moderately low in the late evening. Light NNW to WNW winds early in the day, WNW to SW from the early morning with some NNW to WNW winds, NW to SW in the afternoon before shifting SE to ENE from late afternoon with the rise in humidity becoming calm later in the evening.
• 10/11/19: Fine and sunny with smoke haze. A cold morning and a warm day. The dew point fell from moderately low early in the day becoming very low from the early morning stabilising at around -15 ºC in the late morning. In the early afternoon the dew point fell further and became stable at -30 ºC until 5pm. The dew point then rose returning to moderately low in the evening and became stable. The dew point rose from -17 ºC to 0 ºC in 5 minutes at 6:30pm. Relative humidity fell from very early in the day becoming very low from the early morning. The relative humidity continued to fall through the morning and fell to 1% in the afternoon for several hours. From 6:30pm the relative humidity rose before rising more slowly from 7:30pm and was moderately low. Some light N winds early with NNW to WNW winds from early morning with some SW to WSW winds, WSW to NW in the early afternoon, W to NW winds from mid-afternoon before shifting to S to SE from 6:30pm and S to SW for the rest of the evening.
• 11/11/19: Fine. Very thick smoke haze. Some cu clouds during the day. A cool morning. Variable temperature in the morning and afternoon. The dew point was stable and moderately low early in the day, before rising from the morning close to average. Low relative humidity and near average during the day and in the evening. Calm winds early, before S to SW winds from the early morning, E to SE winds from 8am and NE to ESE form 9am, ESE to NE from 10am, E to NE from 2pm, N to NE in the evening and calm later in the evening.
• 12/11/19: A cool morning and a warm day. Sunny with smoke haze increasing in the afternoon. The maximum temperature was reached in the late morning and then the temperature was stable slightly lower than the maximum temperature until 3pm. Dew point was near average early while falling slowly and then rising from 5am. The dew point fell during the morning becoming moderately low in the late morning and then briefly rising quickly back to average. In the afternoon the dew point was stable and fell slowly in the evening remaining near average. Relative humidity was near average over most of the day. In the late morning the relative humidity became low before briefly rising sharply at 11:30am. Light N to NE winds from the early morning, E to NE from mid-morning, E to ENE from late morning, ENE to NE from mid-afternoon, N to NE in the evening becoming calm later in the evening.
• 13/11/19: Fine and sunny. Smoke haze increasing during the day and decreasing in the afternoon. A hot day with the maximum temperature reached in the late morning before a wind change and fell 5 ºC in 8 minutes and continued to fall in the afternoon. For much of the evening the temperature was stable. Dew point fell from early in the day and became low in the late morning before the wind change. With the wind change the dew point rose 8 ºC in 2 minutes before stabilising close to average in the afternoon and evening and fell slowly later in the morning. The relative humidity fell quite quickly during the morning and became low later in the morning before rising 20% in 7 minutes with the wind change. In the afternoon and evening the relative humidity rose and was moderately low. Light WNW to SW winds, NNW to SW from early morning and became gusty. Variable winds of N to NW mainly with some SW to NW winds and a fraction of N to NE and gusty though wind speeds reduced through the morning. Moderate E to SE wind change at 11:30am. Light E to SE winds then continued through to the evening and SSE to ESE later in the evening.
• 14/11/19: Fine and sunny. Partly cloudy with cu clouds clearing during the morning. The temperature was a little variable in the morning and afternoon. Later in the evening the temperature was stable. Near average dew point generally fell before rising in the afternoon and evening. Moderately low dew point during the day and in the evening. Light SSW to ESE winds early becoming calm, light W to SSW winds in the morning becoming SE to NE, SSE to ENE from late morning, ENE to SE in the afternoon and E to NE from mid-afternoon with some N to NE winds also in the evening.
• 15/11/19: Fine and sunny with some cu clouds in the morning. Smoke haze and increasing during the afternoon. A warm day with variable temperature during the morning and afternoon. The dew point was near average over the day falling during the morning, briefly rising sharply in the late morning before rising slowly in the afternoon and falling slowly from the late afternoon. Relative humidity was moderately low which briefly rose in the late morning and then rose slower for the rest of the day close to average. Calm winds early in the day with light WSW to SSW winds in the early morning, becoming N to NE after briefly S to SE. From the late morning was NNE to ESE winds, ESE to NE in the afternoon, ENE to NE from mid-afternoon, N to NE in the evening and became calm later in the evening.
• 16/11/19: Nearby thunderstorm with a light few drops in the mid-afternoon. Fine otherwise. Decreasing smoke haze during the day. A mostly sunny morning with some cu clouds. Clouds increased in the afternoon with cu, cb, ci and ac clouds. A hot day with the maximum temperature reached in the late morning. Near average and variable dew point. Relative humidity was moderately low during the morning and afternoon and was a little variable in the afternoon. Light and variable winds early, before SE to NE light winds developing in the morning and ESE to NE from the late morning. Winds became E to ENE during the afternoon, and was N to NE in the mid afternoon and in the evening. Winds shifted SSE to ESE from 8pm.
• 17/11/19: Smoke haze and increasing in the afternoon. Partly cloudy with cu clouds with cb, ac and ci clouds in the afternoon. A mild and brief thunderstorm in the early afternoon with a brief period of rainfall with large drops. Near average dew point early rising during the morning becoming moderately high at times in the afternoon and fell slightly later in the afternoon. After a brief rise in dew point whilst remaining near average the dew point fell with a wind change. A hot day with the maximum temperature reached at midday before increasing clouds and then rose following the thunderstorm. Relative humidity was moderately low early in the day, moderately high during the day and near average in the evening. The relative humidity fell slightly in the evening with the wind change. Light and variable winds early in the day with light E to NE winds from the late morning. Winds became light N to NE winds in the afternoon with some ENE to NE winds, before light and variable winds in the evening. Winds became S to SW from 8:30pm and then a wind change of S to SE from 10pm. Wind speed eased in the early evening and increased from 8pm with gusty light to moderate winds with the wind change easing later in the evening.

Light NNE to NNW winds at times early in the day before N to NE winds in the morning with some E to NE wind, E to NE winds in the afternoon, ENE to NE in the late afternoon and N to NE in the evening.

Dew point was near average and rose during the morning and fell in the afternoon and evening. Relative humidity was near average. Light NE to NNE winds becoming calm in the early hours, N to NE becoming E to NE in the early morning, E to SE from late morning, then ESE to ENE from the mid-afternoon, veering from the late afternoon with S to SE winds in the evening.
• 28/11/19: Fine. Cloudy with sc and ci clouds in the morning with cloud clearing from the early afternoon becoming cloud-free late in the afternoon. Smoke haze. A warm morning with the temperature stable early in the day. The temperature was variable from the late morning to mid-afternoon and was temporarily stable or fell during the late morning to early afternoon. Dew point was near average rising during from early in the day and stabilising in the afternoon and evening. Moderately low relative humidity early and near average for the rest of the day. Light S to SE winds early in the day becoming S to ESE from mid-morning, ESE to ENE from the late morning, ENE to NE from the late afternoon and N to NE later in the evening.
• 29/11/19: Fine and partly cloudy with cu and sc clouds and easing in the afternoon. The temperature was variable from mid to late morning. Mostly light NW to NE winds in the early hours, becoming E to NE from the mid-morning, ENE to NE from mid-afternoon and NW to NE in the evening.
• 30/11/19: Fine except for a few drops of rain in the early evening from a decaying mild thunderstorm. Partly cloudy in the morning and late afternoon and mostly sunny during the middle of the day with cu and sc clouds. Smoke haze. A hot day with the maximum temperature reached in the late morning coinciding with cooler winds. Near average and stable dew point except for a small increase in the late morning. The relative humidity became moderately low during the day returning to near average in the afternoon. Light NE to NW winds from early in the day, ENE to NNE from mid-morning with some ESE to NE winds and became E to NE from the late morning. In the evening winds shifted S to SW from 9pm.
