Monthly Meteorological Report for Ferny Grove, Brisbane in August 2019 – above average temperatures and low rainfall

Overnight temperatures in August at Ferny Grove were above average and daytime temperatures were well above average. The official sites in the Brisbane area observed above average overnight temperatures at most sites and above average daytime temperatures at all sites. Some sites saw daytime temperatures that were 1 ºC above average. Ferny Grove rainfall was below average but close to the long term median. The official sites observed below average rainfall totals at most locations with totals of less than 15 mm at most sites. At Ferny Grove air pressure was above average, mean relative humidity was well below average, mean maximum relative humidity was below average, mean minimum relative humidity was well below average, mean dew point was well below average, mean minimum dew point was well below average, mean maximum dew point was below average, wind speed was above average, with zero thunderstorms (1 thunder days).

 

Temperature – above average nights and well above average days

Monthly Mean Minimum Temperature: 9.7 ºC, 0.7 ºC above average and 3.6 ºC higher than same month in 2018. This is the equal fourth highest on record for August and the equal highest since 9.7 ºC in 2015. In August in the Brisbane area most of the official sites measured above mean minimum temperatures, while the inland sites were close to average. The lowest mean minimum temperature was 5.9 ºC at Amberley (0.3 ºC below average). The greatest anomaly below the long term average was 0.4 ºC below average at Beerburrum (9 ºC). Other sites observing near average mean minimum temperatures were Point Lookout (14.4 ºC and 0.2 ºC above average) and Gatton (6.9 ºC and 0.2 ºC above average). The remaining sites observed above average mean minimum temperatures of between 0.5 ºC above average (Archerfield at 8.6 ºC and Redcliffe at 12 ºC) and 1 ºC above average at Brisbane (11.7 ºC). The highest mean minimum temperature was observed by Point Lookout.

 

Monthly Mean Maximum Temperature: 24.3 ºC, 1.2 ºC above average and 0.2 ºC lower than same month in 2018. This is the equal fourth highest on record for August and the lowest since 22.9 ºC in 2016. All of the official sites observed above average mean maximum temperatures in August Many sites were at least 1 ºC above average and this was the case at all of the inland sites. The inland sites observed mean maximum temperatures that ranged between 1.2 ºC and 1.9 ºC above average. The highest anomaly above the long term average of 1.9 ºC above average was observed by Amberley (24.7 ºC). The other inland sites were 1.2 ºC above average at Archerfield (23.9 ºC) and Beaudesert (24.4 ºC) and 1.7 ºC above average at Gatton (24.2 ºC). Except for Cape Moreton Lighthouse which was 1.2 ºC above average (1.2 ºC), the remaining sites were between 0.4 ºC and 0.8 ºC above average. The site that was closest to the long term average was observed by Redcliffe (22.5 ºC), with the other sites 0.5 ºC and above the long term average. The lowest mean maximum temperature was 21 ºC at Cape Moreton Lighthouse. Brisbane observed a mean maximum temperature of 24.1 ºC (0.8 ºC above average).

 

Mean Monthly Temperature: 17 ºC, 1 ºC above average and 1.7 ºC higher than same month in 2018. This is the second highest on record for August and the highest since the current record high of 20 ºC in 2009.

 

Lowest Temperature: 6.2 ºC on 13 August 2019 at 6:29 AM. Same month in 2018 was 2 ºC. This is the second highest monthly minimum temperature for August on record, the highest since the record high of 6.5 ºC in 2009 on 1 August, the equal thirty-fifth lowest daily August minimum temperature and the lowest since 2.9 ºC on 31 August 2018 at 6:33 AM. Official stations in the Brisbane area observed the lowest temperature of the month on the 21st at many sites and some sites on the 12th, 13th and 20th. The lowest was 0.0 ºC at Amberley on the 20th and the highest was 10.3 ºC at Cape Moreton Lighthouse on the 12th. The lowest temperature at Brisbane was 7.7 ºC on the 21st. During the middle of the month was some cool nights. Most sites observed cool nights in the middle of the month.

 

Highest Temperature: 28.6 ºC at 1:13 PM on 19 August 2019. Same month in 2018 was 29.4 ºC. This is the fifth highest monthly maximum temperature for August on record, the lowest since 25.2 ºC in 2016 on 23 August at 1:03 PM, the twelfth highest daily maximum temperature for August and the highest since 29.4 ºC on 17 August 2018 at 1:46 PM. The official sites measured the highest temperature for the month on the 8th at many sites and some sites on the 17th, 19th, 21st and 22nd. The lowest was 23.3 ºC at Cape Moreton Lighthouse on the 21st and the highest was 29.4 ºC at Amberley on the 8th. Brisbane observed its highest temperature of 28.7 ºC on the 8th. Above average maximum temperatures observed during the month mostly were observed during many days of the second half of the month.

 

Lowest Maximum Temperature: 20.8 ºC at 2:12 PM on 11 August 2019. This is the fourth highest monthly lowest maximum temperature for August on record, the highest since 21.6 ºC in 2017 on 19 August at 1:28 PM, the equal nineteenth lowest maximum temperature for August and equal lowest since the 19.5 ºC on 26 August 2018. This month in 2018 was 19.5 ºC. Most of the official stations in the Brisbane area measured the coolest day on the 1st, 11th and 12th and 29th. These ranged between 17.1 ºC at Cape Moreton Lighthouse on the 12th and 20.8 ºC at Beerburrum on the 11th. In the Brisbane area the official sites observed a few periods of some cool days scattered through the month.

 

Highest Minimum Temperature: 14.6 ºC on 28 August 2019 at 4:28 AM. This is the fifth lowest monthly August highest minimum temperature on record, the tenth highest daily minimum temperature for August and the highest since 18.9 ºC on 24 August 2016 at 10:29 PM. This month in 2018 was 10.6 ºC. Most of the official stations in the Brisbane area measured the warmest night on the 28th and on the 10th at Brisbane (16 ºC). These ranged between 13.2 ºC at Gatton on the 28th and 16.2 ºC at Redcliffe on the 28th. In the Brisbane area warm nights were observed throughout the month and peaked at the end of the month.

 

Monthly Mean Minimum Grass Temperature: 7.0 ºC (2.1 ºC higher than same month in 2018)

 

Lowest Minimum Grass Temperature: 4 ºC on 21 August 2019 (3.1 ºC higher than same month in 2018).

 

Highest Minimum Grass Temperature: 12.4 ºC on 28 August 2019 (3.4 ºC higher than same month in 2018). This coincided with the highest minimum temperature of 14.6 ºC for the month.

 

Highest Minimum Grass Temperature Depression: 5.3 ºC on 9 August 2019 with a minimum grass temperature of 8.4 ºC and an air temperature of 13.7 ºC.

 

Lowest Minimum Grass Temperature Depression: 1.8 ºC on 19 August 2019 with a minimum grass temperature of 8.7 ºC and an air temperature of 10.5 ºC.

 

Minimum temperatures in August were generally above average throughout the month with a lower number of average or below average minimum temperatures. The 1st and 2nd was 1 to 2 ºC above average, cooling to 1 to 2 ºC below average on the 3rd to 6th. The 7th was 2 ºC above average, 3 ºC above average on the 8th and 5 ºC above average on the 9th. On the 10th it was 2 ºC above average, cooling to near average on the 11th and 12th. The 13th it was 3 ºC below average and 1 to 2 ºC below average on the 14th and 15th. The 16th was near average, the 17th was 1 ºC below average before rising to 2 ºC above average on the 18th and 19th. The 20th and 21st was 1 ºC below average, rising to 5 ºC above average on the 22nd. The 23rd was 1 ºC above average, falling to 2 ºC below average on the 25th and 26th and near average on the 26th. The 27th was 3 ºC above average, rising to 6 ºC above average on the 28th, 3 ºC above average on the 29th, near average on the 30th and 2 ºC above average on the 31st.

 

Maximum temperatures in August were above average on most days with very few cool or near average temperatures. The 1st and 2nd was 1 to 2 ºC below average, warming to 1 ºC above average on the 3rd and 4th. The 5th was near average, 1 ºC above average on the 6th and near average on the 7th. The 8th was 6 ºC above average, 2 ºC above average on the 9th and near average on the 10th. The 11th was 2 ºC below average, 1 ºC below average on the 12th and near average on the 13th. The 14th was 1 ºC below average, 2 ºC above average on 15th and 16th and 5 ºC above average on the 17th. The 18th cooled to 2 ºC above average, warming to 6 ºC above average on the 19th and easing to near average on the 20th. The 21st and 22nd was 3 ºC above average, 1 ºC above average on the 23rd and 24th. The temperature rose to 2 ºC above average on the 25th, 4 ºC above average on the 26th and 2 ºC above average on the 27th. The 28th was near average, 2 ºC below average on the 29th and 2 ºC above average on the 30th and 31st.

Monthly Mean Minimum MSL Pressure: 1017.5 hPa (3 hPa higher than same month in 2018). This is the second highest on record for August and the highest since the current record high of 1019.3 hPa in 2014.

 

Monthly Mean Maximum MSL Pressure: 1022.6 hPa (1.9 hPa higher than same month in 2018). This is the equal third highest on record for August and the highest since 1022.7 hPa in 2016.

 

Monthly Mean MSL Pressure: 1020 hPa (1.1 hPa above average, 2.4 hPa higher than same month in 2018). This is the second highest on record for August and the highest since the current record high of 1022.1 hPa in 2014.

Lowest MSL Pressure: 1005.6 hPa on 10 August 2019 at 2:41 PM. The same month in 2018 saw 1007.8 hPa. This is the second lowest monthly and daily minimum air pressure for August and the lowest since the current record low of 1005.3 hPa in 2016 on 24 August at 12:25 PM.

 

Highest MSL Pressure: 1029.2 hPa on 3 August 2019 at 9:08 AM. The same month in 2018 saw 1026.2 hPa. This is the fourth highest August monthly maximum air pressure, the highest since 1030.9 hPa in 2016 on 16 August at 8:23 AM, the eleventh highest daily maximum air pressure for August and the highest since 1030.2 hPa on 15 August 2016 at 9:37 AM.

Note: Air pressure measurements are being closely monitored to maintain its accuracy. Over the month of August, a difference of 0.12 hPa lower compared to the official BoM Brisbane site – No. 040913 was observed which is deemed acceptable.

 

Relative Humidity – well below average mean humidity and mean minimum humidity, and below average mean maximum humidity

Monthly Mean Minimum Humidity: 26.8 % (9.2 % lower than same month in 2018 and 25.2 % below average). This is the lowest on record for August exceeding the old record of 33.8 % in 2018.

 

Monthly Mean Maximum Humidity: 79.1 % (4.9 % lower than same month in 2018 and 12.7 % below average). This is lowest on record for August exceeding the previous record low of 83% in 2017.

 

Monthly Mean Humidity: 53 % (5.9 % lower than same month in 2018 and 19 % below average). This is the lowest on record for August exceeding the previous record of 58.9 % in 2018.

 

Lowest Humidity: 3 % on 20 August 2019 at 2:19 PM (14 % lower than this month in 2018). This is the lowest monthly and daily minimum humidity for August on record exceeding the old record of 11 % on 2 August 2014 at 3:14 PM.

Monthly mean maximum dew point: 10.1 ºC (2.1 ºC below average). This is the second lowest monthly mean maximum dewpoint for August and the lowest since the current record low of 8.8 ºC in 2010.

Monthly mean dew point: 5.1 ºC (4.9 ºC below average). This is the lowest monthly mean dew point for August on record exceeding the previous record low of 6.8 ºC in 2018.

 

Lowest dew point: -24.7 ºC on 20 August 2019 at 2:19 PM. This is the lowest monthly and daily dew point for August on record, exceeding the previous record of -4.8 ºC on 21 August 2018 at 3:41 AM.

 

Highest dew point: 17.1 ºC on 8 August 2019 at 10:20 AM. This is the equal fourth lowest monthly maximum dew point on record for August, the thirteenth highest daily dew point for August and the highest since 17.5 ºC in 2017 on 24 August at 1:16 PM

 

Wind Speed – above average wind speed

Maximum Wind Gust: 56 km/hr on 9 August 2019 at 7:28 AM. This is the fifth highest August maximum wind gust and the lowest since 44.6 km/hr in 2014 on the 23 August at 2:52 AM. The maximum wind gust this month in 2018 was 79.1 km/hr. This is the seventh highest daily wind gust on record for August and the highest since 79.1 km/hr on 19 August 2018 at 11:19 AM.

 

Maximum Wind Speed: 25 km/hr on 22 August 2019 at 11:21 AM (Moderate Force Wind). This is the lowest monthly maximum wind speed for August, exceeding the previous record low of 27.9 km/hr in 2011 on 22 August at 5:13 PM, the thirty-fifth highest daily wind speed on record for August and the highest since 25.5 km/hr on 31 August 2018 at 11:35 AM.

Wind Run: 3345.1 km (1985.5 km higher than same month in 2018), 1972.4 km above average and 143.7 % above average. This is the highest on record for August total wind run exceeding the previous record of 1890.6 km in 2014.

 

Monthly Mean Wind Speed: 4.7 km/hr (3.1 km higher than this month in 2018), 2.9 km/hr above average and 61.1 % above average (approx. 20 % above average accounting for measuring equipment changes). This is the highest on record for August exceeding the previous record high of 2.5 km/hr in 2014.

 

Daily Mean Maximum Wind Gust: 27.4 km/hr (5.1 km/hr lower than this month in 2018), 1.1 km/hr below average and 3.9 % below average. This is the fifth highest daily mean maximum wind speed on record for August and the lowest since 26.8 km/hr in 2014.

 

Daily Mean Maximum Wind Speed: 14.5 km/hr, 3 km/hr lower than this month last year, 2.3 km/hr below average and 10 % below average. This is the third lowest daily mean maximum wind speed on record for August and the lowest since 13.6 km/hr in 2012.

Rainfall – below average and near median rainfall

Monthly Rainfall Total: 11.8 mm (23.7 mm below average) and 33.2 % of the long term average. This total is in decile 4/ 34th percentile which ranks as average and 4.7 mm below the long term median (72 % of long term median). This total is lower than this month last year which was 17.1 mm, the tenth lowest on record for August and the lowest since 11.1 mm in 2017.

 

The main official sites in the Brisbane area during August observed below average rainfall totals at most of the sites with totals of less than 10 mm. The exception to this was some coastal sites and Beaudesert observing rainfall totals that ranked as average. The highest rainfall total of the main official sites was 57.4 mm at Cape Moreton Lighthouse (76% of the long term average and ranked as average). The other sites ranking as average observed totals of 13 mm (43% of the long term average) at Beaudesert, 73.2 mm (124% of the long term average) at Point Lookout (the highest above the long term average and highest totals of all the sites) and 10.6 mm (28% of the long term average) at Redcliffe. The other remaining sites observed totals that ranked as low or very low. The sites ranking as low saw totals of between 9% (3.2 mm at Brisbane and Brisbane Aero) and 13% (5.8 mm at Beerburrum). For the sites ranking as very low the rainfall totals were between 4 % of the long term average (1.9 mm at Logan City Treatment Plant) and 10% (3.6 mm at Archerfield). Loowood Don St observed its lowest August rainfall (0.8 mm) since 0.0 mm in 1991.

 

In the Brisbane area there was very little rainfall observed during the month.

 

Number of Rain Days (0.1 mm or greater): 4 days, 1 greater than this month in 2018 and 0.5 days below average. This is the equal fourth lowest on record for August and is the highest since 5 days in 2017.

 

Highest Daily Total: 10.5 mm on 8 August 2019. This is the fourteenth lowest August daily rainfall on record on monthly basis, the highest since 15.6 mm in 2015 which occurred on the 30 August, the twenty-sixth highest August daily rainfall on record on daily basis and the highest since 15.6 mm on 30 August 2015. The highest daily total in the Brisbane area of all official sites was 24.2 mm at Point Lookout on the 1 August 2019.

 

Monthly Rainfall Total – (automatic gauge) 24 hours to 9am: 10.6 mm (1.2 mm less than the site official standard gauge and within 10.2 %). Highest daily total of automatic gauge, (24 hours to 9am): 10 mm on 8 August 2019, (24 hours from midnight): 10 mm on 7 August 2019.

 

Note: This automatic gauge for the month of August, meets the accuracy (of +/- 10% of the standard gauge) at -10.2 %.

 

On the 1st there were light few drops in the afternoon with no measurable rain. On the 2nd was an early afternoon light shower and a mid afternoon light thundery shower (nearby thunderstorm) brought 0.5 mm on the 3rd. The 7th saw some light drizzle from 2 pm, followed by showers with some brief heavy falls clearing by 4 pm with drizzle persisting until late afternoon. 10.5 mm was measured on the 8th. Light mid afternoon light drizzle on the 28th with 0.1 mm measured on the 29th. From the mid morning on the 29th

was light drizzle and occasionally from late morning to mid afternoon. 0.3 mm was measured on the 30th.

 

There was 0 days with falls of at least 25 mm (equal to same month in 2018) with 3 days of less than 1 mm (3 greater than same month in 2018).

 

Highest rainfall rate was 98.4 mm/hr on the 7 August 2019 at 3:40 PM. This is the highest monthly and daily rainfall rate for August exceeding the previous record high of 49.7 mm/hr on 16 August 2014 at 10:40 PM.

 

The highest hourly rainfall total was 8.6 mm on the 7 August 2019 at 3:57 PM. This is the second highest monthly and daily hourly rain for August maximum hourly rainfall, and the highest since the current record high of 16.1 mm on 16 August 2014 at 10:55 PM.

During the morning of the 19th was heavy fog over much of the Greater Brisbane area, with the low-lying clouds extending west into the Lockyer Valley and Scenic Rim. From later that morning dust haze originating from the state’s southern inland extended into the region following a cold front.

• On the 7th it was cloudy. The maximum temperature peaked in middle of day before afternoon rainfall and high relative humidity
• Early fog with visibility down to 500 m at 7:30 am clearing at 8am on the 8th and mostly sunny day. Low relative humidity and dew point form middle of the day

• During August multiple hazard reduction burns were conducted producing smoke haze. On the 21st was a bushfire on the northern end of Bribie Island. A bushfire came within metres of homes that fire crew fought at Noosa and another fire burnt at Dunwich in North Stradbroke Island on the 23rd.

 

Weather influences

• The 1st saw a high pressure system over the Great Australian Bight maintain a ridge along the east coast. A upper trough over southern Queensland brought instability over southern Queensland mostly inland
• On the 2nd the high pressure system remained slow moving and maintained the ridge along the east Queensland coast
• On the 3rd the high pressure shifted into South Australia and into south-eastern Australia while weakening on the 4th and maintained the ridge along the east coast but light winds in south-eastern Queensland
• A weak pressure pattern extended over south-east Queensland on the 5th as the high pressure system moved east into the Tasman Sea
• On the 6th a high pressure system in the Tasman Sea extended light winds over much of the state except for a ridge contracting northwards on the east coast further north
• A weak trough on the 7th shifted eastwards through the south-east of the state with some modest instability. The high pressure system shifted further offshore with light winds over most of the state
• On the 8th a cold front and upper trough rapidly shifted eastwards across the state and started to shift off the east coast late in the day. This extended a warm and dry air mass to its east with elevated dangers especially further inland.
• A complex low pressure system moved into the Tasman Sea and extended dry west to south-westerly winds on the 9th. This combined with a high pressure system over southern Australia that extended a ridge into the state
• On the 10th a complex low pressure system in the south-west Tasman Sra in combination with a high pressure over southern Australia that extended a ridge through the state and brought a cool and dry air mass. A cold front shifted eastwards over southern Queensland and shifted off the east coast in the late evening
• A cooler and dry air mass extended over the state as a complex low pressure system shifting east over the Tasman Sea combined with a high pressure system over southern Western Australia on the 11th
• On the 12th a high pressure system in the Great Australian Bight extended a cool and dry air mass across the state. A cold front cleared off the east coast early in the day with further cool and dry air in its wake
• A high pressure system on the 13th shifted east over South Australia and south-eastern Australia extended a cool and dry air mass with stable conditions. As the high pressure system shifted eastwards and winds tended onshore along the east Queensland coast.
• On the 14th the high pressure system over south-eastern Australia shifted east into the Tasman Sea and directed a stable air mass over most of the state. Some onshore flow extends along the east Queensland coast
• A slow moving high pressure system on the 15th extended light winds over southern Queensland and a dry and stable air mass
• On the 16th a high pressure system shifting slowly eastwards near south-east of the state and extended light winds and a stable air mass over much of the state.
• A high pressure system shifted slowly eastwards on the 17th over the south Coral Sea and extended a stable and dry air mass. A weak trough shifted northwards along the southern Queensland coast late in the day. Another high pressure system shifted east into the Tasman Sea
• A weak trough shifted through the region early on the 18th without rain. A high pressure system shifting further east over the Tasman Sea extended light winds
• On the 19th a cold front shifted east over the state and cleared off the southern Queensland coast in the afternoon while contracting northwards. A large high pressure system extended a dry, cool and stable air mass following the front
• On the 20th over southern Australia continued to extend a cool, dry and stable air mass across the state
• The high pressure system slowly shifted eastwards over southern Australia on the 21st and 22nd maintaining the cool, dry and stable air mass over the state
• A cold front shifted northwards along the New South Wales coast and into the south coast of the state in the evening on the 22nd

• Ahead of the surface trough on the 26th that became slow moving over the south-eastern inland were light winds. A weak upper level trough shifted east over the south with some instability
• On the 27th a high pressure system in the Tasman Sea to remain slow moving while a weak upper level trough shifted east over the state combining with a slow moving surface trough over the south-east inland producing some instability
• A upper level trough moved over the south-east on the 28th and combined with a slow moving surface trough over the south-east inland with some instability
• On the 29th a upper level trough shifted east over the south-east and combined with an east-ward moving trough with some instability
• The 30th saw a high pressure system shift east into the Tasman Sea and extended a weak ridge along the east Queensland coast. Instability developed over the region due to a upper level low pressure system in the south-east inland. A surface trough that cleared off the east Queensland coast shifted further across the Tasman Sea extending dry air in its wake.
• On the 31st a high pressure system in the Tasman Sea extended a ridge along the east coast with some onshore winds

• 1/8/19: Fine. Light few drops in afternoon. Clear early with some sc clouds becoming partly cloudy with cu clouds from morning. Quite variable temperature in morning and afternoon. Near average dew point slowly rising from early, stabilising during the morning before falling slowly in the evening remaining near average. Light SSW to WSW winds at times early, light S to SW winds in early morning becoming SSE to SE and easing to calm from late afternoon except for some light SW winds in evening.
• 2/8/19: Early afternoon light shower and mid afternoon light thundery shower (nearby thunderstorm). Partly cloudy with cu clouds from morning, increasing clouds in afternoon. Near average and slowly falling dew point early, before rising during the morning and becoming moderately high before falling from the mid morning becoming low in late morning and very low in the afternoon. • 8/8/19: Early fog with visibility down to 500 m at 7:30 am clearing at 8am. Fine and mostly sunny with some cu clouds developing from the morning. Stable temperature in the early hours and fluctuated in the evening. Stable dew point early before rising to moderately high in the early morning before falling from mid morning becoming low from middle of the day and very low in the afternoon. The dew point rose from the late afternoon, while remaining low before generally falling slowly in the evening. Relative humidity quickly became low from late morning and very low in the afternoon. In the late afternoon the relative humidity rose and fluctuated while remaining low in the evening. Light and variable winds at times early, before N to ENE light winds in the early morning before shifting NNW to W from mid morning until end of the day, briefly moderate in the afternoon.
• 9/8/19: Fine and sunny. Very low dew point generally stable from early in the day, falling in the afternoon, before rising in the late afternoon and remaining low before stabilising in the evening. Minimum temperature at 2 am before rising. Low relative humidity falling to a minimum of 9 % and fluctuated in the early hours and in the evening. Light to moderate W to NW winds easing from late afternoon with N through W winds for the rest of the day.

Low and generally stable dew point before falling from the late afternoon and became very low to a low of -9 C in the late evening. Temperature was stable, and then fluctuated from 4 am to 7 am. Very low relative humidity over entire day and variable in the early hours. Light W to WNW winds from early, increasing during the morning with winds gusty and moderate at times from late morning, easing to light from late afternoon.
• 11/8/19: Fine and sunny. The temperature rose for a brief period in the mid evening before resuming the fall in the temperature due to persistent wind. Very low dew point rose slowly before stabilising in the early hours, before falling during the morning, reaching a low of -12.5 C in the afternoon and rising while staying very low from late afternoon. Low relative humidity with a low of 10%. A small rise and fall in dew point and relative humidity in late afternoon. Light W to NW winds, increasing to light to moderate from later in the morning, before easing to light W to NNW winds from late afternoon.

Light WSW to SSW winds at times early, SSE to ENE from early morning, E to NE from late afternoon and became calm in the evening.
• 19/8/19: Fine and sunny. Early fog with visibility down to 300 metres at 6:30 am, clearing to some persisting mist at 7:30 am which cleared at 8 am. Dust haze developed during the morning and eased later in the afternoon. A hot day. Stable and near average dew point early, rising to moderately high during the morning before falling from the mid morning. The dew point became low from the late morning and well below average later in the afternoon before rising but remaining low in the evening. Low daytime relative humidity through to end of the day. Light and variable winds occasionally early before brief and gusty WNW to WSW winds in early morning (with the fog clearing), before light ESE to NNE winds until mid morning. Gusty N to NW winds later in morning before WNW to WSW winds from middle of day, followed by the passage of a dry trough at 3 pm before easing in the evening while persisting.
• 20/8/19: Fine and sunny. Temperature rose later in the evening with some wind and became stable in late evening. Low and stable dew point from early in day, falling slightly in early morning, before rapidly falling in the afternoon becoming very well below average. In the late afternoon the dew point rose sharply but remained low for rest of day. Low relative humidity over entire day and especially during the afternoon. Relative humidity fell in the late evening before recovering slightly with some breezes. Light NW to WSW winds early, SSW to W from early morning before lighter NNW to WNW winds from late afternoon. In the late evening the wind returned with light W to NW winds.
• 21/8/19: Fine and sunny. Smoke haze in afternoon. Low and stable dew point from early, rising from late afternoon but remained low. Fluctuating temperature in the early hours due to breezes. A warm day. Fluctuating and low relative humidity early and remaining low for the rest of the day with a low of 12% in the afternoon. Light W to NW winds in early hours. Light and gusty NW to W winds and was moderate at times from the early morning through to end of day.
• 22/8/19: Fine and sunny. Increasing smoke haze. A warm morning and day. Low dew point early slowly rising, before falling from the mid morning and generally stabilising from early afternoon well below average. In the late afternoon the dew point rose slowly before rising quickly for 1 hour at 9pm to near average associated with a wind change before slowly falling. Low relative humidity improving in the evening. Light NNW to W winds early, then light to moderate and gusty WSW to NW winds from morning, before easing in the afternoon and evening. A Southerly wind change at 9:25 pm with S to SE winds for rest of day.
• 23/8/19: Fine and mostly sunny. Some cu and sc developing during morning and easing later in afternoon. Near average dew point falling from early becoming moderately low in early morning and low later in the morning. From the late morning the dew point was stable, rose briefly and sharply at 3 pm, then slower while remaining moderately low and falling slowly in the evening. Variable temperature in afternoon with a brief and quick fall at 3 pm. Low daytime relative humidity and rose quickly for a brief period at 3pm. Light and easing SSW to SSE winds becoming calm at 1am before mostly S to SW from early morning. From the late morning winds were variable with some SSE to E winds, then ESE to NE from mid afternoon and then easing to calm for most of the evening.
• 24/7/19: A sunny and hot day. Cloud-free except for some distant cu clouds to the east. Fluctuating temperature in the late afternoon and evening. Near average dew point early while falling slowly, before rising during the early morning close to average. From 10am the dew point fell becoming very low from the middle of day, to a low of -12 C before rising from late afternoon whilst remaining low. Low daytime relative humidity and variable in late afternoon and evening. Light and variable winds before W to NW winds from about 10am for the rest of the day.
